    Default Hughes Autoformer

I have had the 50 amp Hughes autoformer for some time now. The other day, I noticed that one of the surge capacity lights went from green to red so I ordered a replacement surge module.

The module came with a new ribbon cable and a replacement LED indicator circuit board. Instructions were only for the module with no information on the circuit board. I installed the module and some of the indicator LEDs were still not working right. So decided to install the circuit board and new ribbon cable.

The circuit board is bolted to the side of the case with three nuts on stand offs. The bottom nut was impossible to get to. It took me some time, but I finally figured out that the stand off studs are screws and the heads are behind the large front label. So I removed the female 50 amp from the end of the unit to allow me to move the wiring slightly out of the way, then partially removed the label to access the screw heads. That allowed me to get the circuit card out easily. However, getting the nylon washer and locking nut back on the lower stud did take some patience.

Now with the new module, circuit card and ribbon, all is back to normal. Hope this helps someone save a little time.

Thanks Mark for the info. I have the same unit and although I don't use it unless we're somewhere with voltage issues, good to know!
