I was afraid of that. Nice job working through it and adding the diodes. Some times these converters just make things to complicated!

Interesting how the old incandescent bulbs were not effected by the the small voltage bleed through, but it reeks havoc on the LEDs

For sure. We need to remember that LEDs are small circuits not anything like the resistive filament in the incandescent bulb. With that in mind, you are correct, they can reek havoc :-)
