    Default Clearing check engine light

I am looking for the instructions for clearing the check engine light and clearing the codes from the computer after the issue is fixed?

    Thanks

A CEL or SEL active event must be corrected before it will go from active code that illuminates the light to an inactive code that is maintained in the DDEC.

To clear the inactive DDEC codes is something most can't accomplish without trip to their local Detroit shop. With a Detroit shop computer it doesn't take 10 minutes to hook up and clear the inactive codes.

Why dont they just go away by driving it after a condition was corrected moving the code to memory only

Joe, that's what happens. While active an engine will be on. When the alarm goes away the alarm goes inactive where it sits in the computer with no lights on the dash.
