    Default Headhunter trouble shooting

Working on a boat with a Headhunter pump problem (keeps going into fault mode). Headhunter sent me this check list page with a YouTube video link. Will work the same in our coaches.

    Thanks for sharing.

The check valve on the intake of the pump commonly gets debris in it causing intermittent shut downs.

Good thought, already checked it. I do carry spare check valves.

    Hi Randy:
My coach does have a headhunter pump but the pump that is having an issue is on a boat. When crew is onboard using sinks, showers, washing machines, etc there is never an issue, but once owners and or guest arrive the pump will cut off on a fault. Simply turning the breaker off then back on again will reset the pump and it will work again for maybe a couple of hour or sometimes for a couple of days before it will fault again. The mystery is what makes it fault when owners and guest are onboard but not during weeks of use while crew is onboard.
Headhunter techs think it's a leak on the suction side that is amplified by the additional load of owner and guest areas being used. Basically going from a couple of users to multiple users.

Chuck, I bet the owners are taking too long of a shower ;-) The HH pump has a fault feature where it will shut off the pump if it thinks there is a leak. It's easy enough to simulate. Turn on as many water appliances as they think may be in use at the same time and see if it faults.

chuck, my pump would work like that on inverter or on shore power. then it would go for along time before it started again. i replaced the pump and no problems. took the top of pump off to see the inside and there is a capacitor under cover that believe is problem. randy

Tryed the all faucets open and pump ran just fine. Usally goes into fault when not faucets are in use.

Definitely a suction side issue if it happens with everything off. I'd make sure everything is really off. That's an easy test with the owners not on board. If all is really off, I'd replace the inlet check valve.
