My wife and I are making plans to travel to somewhere northwest of Nashville for the Solar Eclipse in 2017. The area of greatest duration is near the Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. I am wondering if anyone has made plans for this rare event or if anyone has recommendations for camping near the Shawnee National Forest? I've read that the Hotels are already getting booked up. You will be able to see the total eclipse along a path that starts in Oregon, passes through Nashville Tn, and leaves the US through South Carolina. A search online for 2017 solar eclipse can direct you to the NASA Eclipse web site that has an interactive map. Some people also recommend to watch the weather forecast days before the eclipse and travel to the location that has the best chance of clear skies. Hope to see some POG members next year during the eclipse!
