Default I think I found it.

Looks like a bad solenoid. Have good voltage at both sides of the solenoid when the starter button is engaged. Finally resorted to 'old school shadetree' and shorted across the poles. The starter spins but won't engage. Looked up a cutaway and saw that the solenoid also mechanically pushes the starter gear into the starter ring. Going to try to remove the solenoid and see if I can make it go 'one more time'. If so, this bus aint shutting down til we get back to Tulsa.
Thanks for all the help and making us feel like family.

You seem to have it under control. My experience with the same type of symptom was to loosen and then tighten the main bolt (positive) on the starter.... it was loose...

    Jackson,

I'm glad you found the problem. A starter solenoid should be easy to source. You might want to call a Detroit shop along your route and see if you can pick one up.

A quick not to say thanks for all your help. After removing the solenoid and opening it up, I found a broken lead wire inside. Fortunately, it was broken (fatique) right at the connector. A quick splice, redirection of the wire, and we were back in business. A new solenoid will be installed when I get back to Tulsa. I must say that by the way the wiring is designed, I'm suprised more of them have not failed.
In the mean time, it's COLD in Eastern Colorado... Currently -4 at 2:00 in the afternoon. Makes me glad the Webasto works.
