    Default Alternator Bearing Seal

Noticed some oil around the Bearing/Pulley on my big alternator, ordered a replacement, and am about to tackle the chore. Aside from a wheel puller, any tools or any advice from those who have done this?

I had this done once before a couple years ago by Prevost, but this time I want to do it myself.

I did mine last year, it was pretty straight forward. I used one of these seals http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Kirks-50DN-Alternator-Oil-Seal-Kit-K-5016-/160375829426 recommended by others on POG. The seal looked better than the OEM style to me.

1 1/4 socket with long handle wrench or breaker bar. === make sure to put the Prevost rear engine start switch to the center "off" position before doing anything back there, even if the the coast is clear. A great habit to get in to......

    Pete,
We replace these quite often. We use the KIRKS brand seal. It holds up really well. Everyones advice is good. The only thing I would add is removing the pulley nut with an impact wrench makes this a really simple task.

Thanks, I will get started ASAIC..........(as soon as I can).
I have already gotten the part from Prevost, so I will go ahead and use it, but will make a note of the other brand (KIRKS), Thanks Kevin.
Jim, when you get the tool to remove the dust covers from the Idler pulley, let me know and we can do it all at the same time.

If you can't find the elusive tool I got a new dust cover here: http://www.machinerytrader.com/deale...px?cid=2954748. Cost was about $10.00. Cheapest I could find it from any Detroit parts dealer was $65.00.
