Should I have a "Private Coach" sign?

I have been noticing a few buses with a "Private Coach" sign? Looks fancy and what other reasons are there for having such a sign?

No real reason Ron, other than to maybe stop curious ones from getting a closer look at Olivia. We were parked in a Walmart parking lot in Dallas some time back and a little oriental non english speaking lady kept wanting to come in our bus and she was determined... come to find out that the Shreveport bound Casino bus also left from the same parking lot. Too funny.. no-way was she gonna miss the bus !!

We have them on our coach now but I don't think she could have read the sign anyway.

I think that perhaps at one time it was to distinguish the difference between a bus used for private use versus one used for commercial purposes.

May have been meaningful to toll-takers and motor vehicle inspectors at one time..... maybe still is for all I know....

The only reason I have heard of anyone putting a Private Coach sign on their coach is because they have it registered in the company name (LLC). This will keep whoever is driving from having a CDL lic and keeping a log book that is required in most states for anyone driving a coach.

There's no legal reason at all. Many commercially licensed buses have the 'private coach' plate attached, usually just to let the looky lou's know stay away.
More a status symbol that anything else.

Especially on some turnpikes where the ticket picked upon entering is the same for commercial or private, and for certain bridges and tunnels. I think it is/was a right coast issue, primarily, particularly in the NE. I have had to personally try to point out the difference on the PA turnpike, (some years ago), and sit there and refuse to pay, was told to pull through and over to side until a supervisor stuck her head of the office on the side to look after the toll taker called it in, and gesture and then call to the tolltaker that it was okay. So I presume that it is or was the reason in the beginning.

The Ohio turnpike goes by weight; doesn't matter if private or commercial. When I ordered E Z Pass from the PA turnpike, before available in Ohio, I told them it was a private bus that was a motorhome. Didn't make a difference. I was told they go by weight and that a private coach would still be a commercial vehicle and pay according to weight/axles.
