    Default Wheel Bearings

Not much going on here so I'll through this out.

Read somewhere that since 2007 Prevost has been lubricating the wheel bearings with grease and not oil.

Anybody know if that is true?

If it is I wonder why?

I read this in regard to passenger buses, maybe the motor home chassis still uses oil?

Actually front and tag bearings can have an oil bath hub or grease fittings. I did not know Prevost switched, but both methods are used on heavy vehicles and I think my shop manual references the grease type hubs.

I did see 2 new XLII shells in Nashville this week that had grease hubs, no oil. I know that my 2 year old Featherlite trailer has grease instead of oil, I think they are going this direction for less maintainance and better grease today. One shell was an entertainer and one was a MH.

    Default Grease or Oil

When I was running trucks I insisted mechanics grease the cones with a light coat of grease before installation. On rare instances someone may fill hub with 90 Wt and doesnt wait for it to flow to the back bearing giving a false full. The grease also helps in setting the bearing torque.
Thats my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
