Default Issues with various rocker switches

I'm sure this will be a newbie question all the way, so be patient.

I have an 87 XLII Executive and notice that several of the front panel rocker switches (for example the cruise setting, the high idle switch) work intermittently. They often require several on/off exchanges to get them to kick in.

Is this just a case of the rockers being old? Or dirty? Or old and dirty? Is this a replace and move on, or can I clean the connections?

    Advice?

    Rod,

If you have a 87, I think you might want to just replace. BUT! I like to take things apart and see if I can repair before ordering.

ps....XLII through me. Ours is a XL La Mirage

Try a blast of electrical contact cleaner....CAUTION, not electrical motor cleaner! I think it is just carbon-tet but whatever I'll bet dirt is the perp.
