    Default 30 Amp Service Question

As many of you know, am looking to get a trailer to pull behind bus.

The trailer is set up with 50 AMP service. For a simple cargo trailer to pull car I do not need this. Plus it is hard to find a genny with a hook-up for 50 amp plug.

I asked the dealer if I could go with 30 AMP on trailer. He said the 13,500 BTU A/C would take 20 amps in and of it self. Said the 30 amp set up would not be enough?

The only other electrical item would be fluor. lights.

    Can someone help me here?

Should a 30 AMP not be enough.

    Thanks,

    Tully Lee Garrett

Tully, let him build the trailer with 50 amp service. Just step down to 30 amp or even 20 amp if you need to. Sounds like they build their units with 50 amp service and it's to your benefit to just go with what they are used to furnishing.

    How do you step down?

What is involved and how difficult?

    Tully,

Couldn't you just use an adapter; 50amp to 30amp and then plug the 30 amp into the generator?

If you only having a single A/C unit and a radio in the trailer, 30 amp is fine. However, If you plan for the future, and ad a lift, plasma TV, W/D etc, you will need the 50 amp circuit.
All Airstreams unless specified by a customer have 30 amp shore cord with a single 15,000 btu A/C unit, with microwave.

Something like this, Tully. 50 amp to 30 amp, male or female whichever you need. Then if you need to, drop down from 30 amp to 20 amp. You will end up with a drawer full of various adaptors over time and just like everything else, you get what you pay for.
