Default Marathon's Summer 2005 Maratime article...

    1000th Marathon Coach

"Marathon's 1000th bus conversion coach #1001, is scheduled for completion that month." (November)

1000th? I don't think so....let's see, #109 is their first Prevost, but they didn't specify Prevost, just bus conversion. Ok, so they started with #101, so #1001 is not their 1000th, but their 900th. You would think people that can create such beautifull rolling works of art and craftmanship could count.

    Hello Geoff,

I think that it is possible that Marathon is now somewhere in the COACH MODEL NUMBER: 1166 or greater, I see that they have 1166 on their website for sale, so its possible they have in fact exceeded the 1K #

    Gentlemen,

Marathon Coach 1066, was the 1000th Prevost shell converted. Coach 1001 was the 1000th commercial bus shell they have converted,. Marathon has done some other coach shells as well, Neoplan, Eagle, and MCI are a few names.
Coach 1001 is quite a spectacular coach if you go back to an older FMCA magazine, 1001 was on the cover.

My point was (in 2005 when #1001 was made) how could 1001 be their 1000th when they started with #100? #100 is Marathon's FIRST bus conversion.

I would guess, since there are older coaches than yours, non-prevosts, with a different numbering system.

I got the skinny on the numbering system for Marathon coaches:

I noticed your comments and questions about the Marathon Coach numbering and whether or not coach 1001 was our 1000th bus conversion. To give you the quick primer on our numbering at the time and currently, in the beginning the first coach was #101 and so on for a period of time. A few years in it was decided to change the first digit to the “year of production” (hence, coach 526) with the thinking of the first digit “5” being the fifth year of production and the “26” being the number of coaches produced. This system continued for a number of years and made its way past coach 799, 7100 and 7101 in sequence. When we rolled into the 10th year of production, we crossed over from coach 9189 to 0190. At this point, we decided to simply stick with a four digit numbering sequence. This has continued to this day as I just walked out of coach 1169 which should finish later this month. Now, for when we reach our 10,000 coach…. )

The next question is the coach 1001 vs 1000th coach. Of our own accord, we chose not to build coach 0666, which allows for the one coach stagger. Correcting another piece of misinformation in the thread, our coach 1056 was our 1000th Prevost conversion.

It was a Marathon rep, I can't believe he'd be upset if I revealed who, but I don't want to take that chance. So I'll let him post if he chooses. He emailed me after seeing this thread, cool huh?

Whoever is the Marathon rep reading this site it's a welcome surprise. Please continue to be involved and it would be nice for some participation on the Forum. There are many Marathon owners in POG.
