    Default Air Dryer

My research has indicated that my coach has a Bendix AD-9, P/N 065224 air dryer. My thought was to replace it with a new dryer, order the components to rebuild the one I removed and hold it as a spare.

Any experience with a good suppliers for a new Bendix Air Dryer? I am seeing prices ranging from $450 and up for a new Bendix.

    Any comments are welcome.

Hector, Why not just replace the cartidge and service the dryer? Most dryers have kits for service.

Unless I have a problem I just replace the cartridge.

    Jon,

The purge valve is leaking and/or the check valve. I have noticed over the last few weeks when leaving the coach unattended, the primary and secondary air supplies would depressure. I have ordered and received both check valves for the primary and secondary air tanks and would like to have the air dryer in good shape also.

This is probably an overkill having a spare air dryer, but I am trying to minimize the time the bus is out for repairs.

Where do you buy your parts for the air dryer overhaul?

Truck Pro or Fleet Pride. I'm sure you have a truck parts house in your area.

The online Prevost service manual likely has the details relating to the rebuilding or repairing of your dryer. You can probably get the kit from Prevost, but they have not been competitive on too many things.

The only time I did repairs was on my 87 coach in the early 90s. It was the type that had the snap ring and three bolts to hold the cartridge. Not the spin on cartridge I have now. I can't remember a thing about it except replacing some parts. The memory fades.

    My air dryer failed also.
Do not bother trying to rebuild it.
Buy a new one, check pricing at Prevost.
    They were competative.
Previous owner did not change filter timely.

I just go down to my Fleet Pride and buy a cartridge and put it in. It's a very simple maintaince issue. I bought a new relief valve and put in when the older one got to leaking. I think it's around 40-50 bucks.

I will replace this valve every other time I change filters as to not have a problem with rust again.

For us challenged members, would it be possible to walk us through the filter change out, where it is, how to access it and what parts are needed. How to get started.

That is not the type found on Bruce's coach. I don't know what year Prevost started using the type with the spin on cartridge, but since Bruce's bus is newer than mine I feel confident he has the same spin on type that I have.

This is an excellent document for those with that type dryer.

This might be more appropriate for Bruce's coach:
