light wood vs. dark wood

Now that the sale of my 2006 Country Coach Affinity is finished, it is now time to concentrate on my new toy. As most know I am leaning toward Millennium and Country Coach. I know I want the wood look and with the wood laminates out there which do most prefer? I have usually been a dark wood guy but have to admit that the light wood laminates that Millennium uses is nice. I know its my coach but I always try to design and decorate in the event of a resale and I know wood choice is something to consider. Curious what the POG likes?

I think you answered it in your two statements.

I say potato you say potato; I like dark(er) wood and Mike likes that sissy light colored laminate because it shows off the LEDs better. But someone profound at POG1 (so it wasn't Jon, Jeff, Lew, Roger or Tom) said they decorated their coach entirely different than their home just for a change. Made sense, but I can't go that Liberty casino chic. We bought the Royale because liked the solid wood and it is fairly dark. Kinda dark. Well just medium dark. Maybe.

Having had many different Coaches with Oak or Maple.... I kind of like the change to the solid colors. Its nice when they have wood accents also instead of all wood.

Just remember that "real" wood will darken with age. I lean toward a medium color real wood. But that fake stuff kind of grows on you.:D

I had a Foretravel with dark wood (walnut) and it was beautiful, but when it was time to sell, most of the woman didn't like it cause it was too dark inside.

Having had Prevost's with both light and dark interior, I must say I prefer light or medium. My initial attraction when viewing pictures of coaches for sale was for the dark wood. Our H3 had dark mahogany wood laminate. It was a very European interior with crystal chandeliers, gilded gold framed original oil paintings, etc. Talk about bling! However, it was dark and it gave you the feeling of being in a smaller space. The fabric was champagne in color so it did have light contrasts though not enough to "open" up the coach. If it would have had slides like our present coach, I may have felt differently about it.

I would advise walking through coaches with both dark and light wood before making a decision. If you have the opportunity, walk through after dark;) Real wood cabinets should not darken with age if stained and sealed appropriately although oak can turn more yellow for some reason. I am looking forward to seeing your choices, I love choosing fabrics, etc.

Hmmmmmmm, I wonder if I could get Bob-00 to order a new coach so that I can choose the interiors? Ok, right, I hear Mango, Jon and Jeff saying, NO WAY!!

What if I load the girl's go-cart into the front bay of the coach and you tell Bob that we are having a "Cart Rally" in some town near Santa Fe. You trick him into going, we make him drive the cart over to Sante Fe Skies, and poof, you are at the POG, we tell Bob to get a life and you can lead the seminar about choosing the right interior.

It's easy to figure. They need to be at Santa Fe by noon on Wednesday and they only travel 6 hours per day, so figure 62.5 mph X 6 hours - a pee break for Jon every 45 minutes work backward from Santa Fe and you will know where they will stop and when they started. Figure Roger will drive 75 from his home to Knoxville and you are done.

Do we need to get the girls on here to whine you into coming?

DEB: Tell Bob-00 to kick back and take a few days to join in on the harrassment of his fellow man. I know he wants to make a few bucks, but so do I and Mango, and JDUB and probably a few others. But the bus is good- no great therapy for the working man (and woman in Micki's case). Instead of the proverbial &quot;gone fishin&quot; sign, just post &quot;gone blinging&quot; on the door and no one in these here mountains will know what and where you are. Reference previous post about bling - fortunately that definition hasn't flowed up hill to us.
We plan to leave fairly early am (sevenish) Sunday and follow Jon thru Knoxville, to somewhere in eastern ARK Sunday night, (about 600 miles for us) at 62.5mph Mon we will do another 500 or so on for Tue, we should arrive SF by mid week. I will follow Jon as I don't want my bling to damage his vision.

It's a good thing we are not going thru Houston as we may slide off the road due to a great deal of residue being spread & left around there.

Lewpopp my brother I dont want to get into a war of words as again it was what I thought was a harmless thread about wood. Just one gentleman seems to have made this something personal for himself and I responded as tactfully as I could which is something I tryed to convey that he could adhere too in the future. But I don't see where I attributed everyone or the &quot;WE&quot; in your post as being sarcastic. I thought it was obvious that the tone of the gentleman's response was somewhat harsh about a small topic about woods. I have tried again to be tactful, as I havent seen this type of harshness in posts since I have joined the forum. I did not attribute envy or other negative qualities to the gentleman, but he certainly feels justified in his post about his attributes to me, which again any normal, reasonable person or POG bretheren can see had nothing to do with the topic at hand. My slant on the Light Wood vs Dark Wood. My wife and I love dark wood and when we bought our house and remodeled it, I gutted it taking out all of the woodwork, doors, etc. We replaced it all with oak stained Danish walnut. We even went so far as to replace the floors with walnut wood. Again, we love dark wood.

All of our previous coaches had dark wood also. Until our Prevost.

I saw it on Parliaments website and it was light, light, light but it immediately captured my attention. It was about a month of convincing before my wife would even look at the photos because it was not dark wood. We went to Florida to look at it and after 5 minutes of sitting in it we felt like we were home. We did a 180 on the dark wood we love so much.

In the coach the light finish makes it seem so much brighter, cheerful and larger. It is a non slide coach. After having the coach for 3 months, we are still very satisfied with our choice in finish. Our home has the dark and the coach has light. We feel we have the best of both worlds.

As for resale, future value and what other people think, I don't care. It is what we like and what we are happy with. I am sure that someone in the future will like it just as much as we do.

I guess I stick my nose into places that I shouldn't. I guess I am bored and want to give my ideas.

Years ago, most all coaches had dark or darker wood in them. As years progressed the lighter laminates took over and they were beginning to please more and more people. I would venture a guess that there are more lighter interior coaches out there that darker ones.

I feel I am entering a cave when I get into a darker wood coach.

I purchased a Gulfstream Tour Master and it was my first taste of a light interior. I believe they were the first builder to use the white laminate throughout. We fell in love with it. It was very cheerful and we really enjoyed the coach because of the new found lightness.

I would encourage you to not go any darker than cherry. I've seen many coaches with wood much darker and have noticed that they seem to stay on the market a bit longer... but those are older coaches and it might be a different story with the new ones.

I have a light wood look coach. Cherry is my favorite, but it only took about a week for me to get completely used to the lighter color and to like it possibly more than cherry... it just looks brighter and more open with the lighter wood.

That's my 2 cents worth.

I feel the same way you feel Denny and I agree with your assessment Ben. I have always been a dark wood fan but the light wood I see offered on a Millennium Coach sure looks nice and its light. I may have to convert to the light side. I will see as I am flying there next week.

I love the look of wood. The darker the better. It makes the coach look like an elegant vintage yacht or the inside of an exclusive club.

But despite that preference, there are two strong arguments in favor of not only light wood, but even laminates.

The first has been stated. Dark colors seem to shrink the coach. It feels smaller and even cramped.

The second argument in favor of light laminates is not only does it open up the coach and make it feel less confining, but with a spray bottle of Glass Plus and a rag you can wipe down an entire coach in minutes. I don't even want to think about the effort required with furniture polish to maintain a fine dark wood interior.

Our Liberty has gone beyond light....we have white laminate and as Jon states it is very easy to clean. Additionally, in our non-slide coach the white interior seems larger. Ken

Sting: The consensus -well It appears almost unamimous in favor of light vs dark.,,I used to be the guy who loved dark wood, and then I got older and the light began to fade and dim the eyes, - the lighter the interior, the brighter, the easier it is for an old fart to see. so as you get a little older in age - you might need to see what you are doing rather then feeling your way.
Of course Winchester with all his skills probably doesn't need light- Just the LED type. or his flame thrower. or cold hands!

I even had my offices redone into a super light wall with white wainsright and lots of lights and windows. Now I have to wear sunglasses!:cool:

I'm telling you this is all a smoke screen to cover up for having to wear sun glasses in the office because of that Viagra / light sensitivity thing. Our former chairman had a dark block paneled office and he kept the shades pulled and the lights out with lamps lighting the office. When I asked his assistant about it, she said it was from the Viagra. Wonder how she knew?
