A friend of mine sent me this link, he said it was about a bus that blocked the traffic while he made a "U" turn....So I thought it was Jon on his way to the mini-pog rallye in PSL this past January. It wasn't him but from what I understand there are plenty of similarities.
There is no proof whatsoever that I ever blocked traffic.
None.
Rodger was there.
On our trip out of Maine last week, we decided to spend a night at the Foxwoods Casino Resort where they allow free overnight stays in their "Large Vehicles" parking lots.
Great place with lots to see and do. Largest casino in the world!
Only thing is MAKE SURE that you take the entrance road on the south side of the main casino entrance.... I didn't....
So, I end up in valet parking..... towing the Jeep... no way to turn....
As I eased the bus into the line of cars I asked "Uh.. so, you wanna valet park this ?"
Valet guy was not happy!
Ended up having to disconnect the Jeep, move it out of the way, block traffic in 3 directions as I backed the bus out of line and into the street, ran over a couple of curbs and perhaps some landscaping (hey, the pissed off valet guy was directing me, I missed a stop sign by less than an inch according to Janice, who was blowing the horn on the Jeep and trying to warn me to no avail) and finally getting escorted by a security vehicle to the CORRECT parking lot :D
Once we arrived there, it was kind of a free-for-all for spaces and it took several attempts to get settled into a spot the we felt comfortable in. :)
All in all, a good experience for everyone but the valet guy....
And, other than some scuff marks on a couple of tires, no damage to the bus.
The entertainment value to the casino spectators was priceless....

Who are you going to believe......me or a used car salesman? Never mind, I know the answer.
Just yesterday Roger was your idol...now he's just a used car salesman (an occupation that I admire). How quickly things change when you buy an XLII.

Let me guess the next attempt of an excuse, if a tree falls in the woods and there is no one to hear it does it make a sound.
Currently I have never had to unhook. We should take a survey so at a rally those who have can wait on those of us who haven't.
The reason some folks never have to unhook is because they make others go first to forge the way. (Speaking hypothetically here because there is still no proof of the original allegation.)
Roger is still my idol BECAUSE he is a used car salesman and in these trying times he bought a new bus. He's a guy that can sell H2 Hummers when gas is over $4.00. And he can take vacations. C'mon Rick. Come to Spearfish. Those Subarus sell themselves.
And Joe, when you claim you have never had to unhook that just means you aren't pushing the limit. When you drive a semi you can back up for miles, but when driving the bus with a toad four down you better be right because even backing a short distance can break a tow bar. I don't know this personally, I'm just repeating what I've been told.
There is still no proof that I backed up traffic on a four lane highway in Wildwood FL.

Gary: I didn't notice Jon blocking the road and unhooking his H2, I was watching the cop. So ----I see nothing.
I did notice that it took longer to get across the road. Jon usually runs 62.5mph, but that day it was much slower. Sorry no pics. If you have ever gotten into a jam (tight turn and can't move) with a toad, you know it always takes longer to unhook.
There you have it folks. The King has spoken. He did not see me block any traffic.
(Does that mean I buy lunch today old pal, old buddy?)
No photos, no witnesses, no proof. And certainly no admission of guilt.

Joe, taking a survey about who has had to unhook and who has not would not prove anything at all.
If you drive super conservatively , you will never have to unhook. If you drive aggressively you will be unhooking all the time.
The thrill is in pushing the limits right to the edge. Getting into that tight spot and just barely making it work out. He who has the most of those would be the best driver in my opinion, well maybe if you subtract a point for every unhook event.

Then you would certainly appreciate our circumstances when we accepted a campsite in NY recently that we knew going in would require me BACKING OUT ALL THE WAY WE CAME IN, since there was absolutely now way we could make any of the turns on the outbound road (and I use the term road loosely)
Yep, first thing on a Friday morning, before any arriving traffic was expected, we fired up and backed out 'till I could make a 3 point turn in their laundry room parking lot.
Once again, we were the morning's entertainment :D
We all know there are only two kinds of drivers...those who have had to make a u-turn and those who will... similar to pilots....those of us who have made a gear up landing and those who will....
Roger now has to go into the witness protection program.
Wildwood NJ would have made for a better story line.......
Well looks like we do not need a survey to find out if Peter or Toybox have needed to unhook.

We've got to break Joe of his habit of thinking like an eighteen wheeler driver. It seems like every one of them is of the opinion anybody driving one of them big stagecoaches can't drive, and that somehow every trucker knows how to back up, but the amatuers driving those fancy stagecoaches don't know how.
Apparently Joe hasn't spent much time in the Flying J parking lot and compared what he would see there to the gyrations one sees watching the gyrations in a campground. It is my opinion there are as many "go forward" truck drivers as there are bus drivers.
Peter hit the nail on the head. There are times when you need every single inch of space available, and it is only when you are commited to the turn you find out you need more inches. The problem we face is if we are reasonable straight we have a little ability to back up a short distance. But if we are in the turn and run out of room, if we start to back up even a little bit we can tear the tire tread sideways from the toad, or bend the tow bar or both.
Joe, this ain't a semi. If you start piling on the miles in your coach your will be getting a T shirt.

If anyone has seen Jim's Tool drawers you'll understand this award is well deserved.
What would a driver do in a case similar to Jon's if he were pulling a trailer.
You could certainly unhook, but then what. With the Toad you just drive it away, but a bus and trailer on a busy street trying to unhook reposition, and hook!
How would you move the trailer.:eek::eek::eek:
I can envision many difficult situations with a trailer!

This is why I decided on a toad instead of a trailer!
If you had a trailer you could back up. With a toad four wheels down you cannot back up.
If dealing with a trailer in a campground wasn't such a PITA, and then having to wash it along with the car and bus I would have a trailer. Guys with trailers don't block highways, and guys driving Libertys, driving Hummers do not block them either, unless somebody has proof to the contrary, like a photo.
Or an eye witness. :)

Ive seen that bus video somewhere before, it always reminds me of the Austin Powers Movie trying to turn a electric cart around in a hallway. I had a similar situation above Vancouver, Canada a few years back in my Country Coach when my wife navigated me up a road along the cliffs of the Pacific Ocean and the road just got narrower and narrower. Two feet forward , turn, two feet back, repeat.
