Leak in basement ,
So I’m working on a new to us prevost , I find that the plywood under the fresh water tank is completely rotted and gone and very wet ! Today I removed the fresh water tank and tested it , no leak 🤔 anyone know where else this could come from if not a holding tanks? No sign of any leakers above the tanks ??
-
I am sure there are many sources including the door to the compartment and of course where the water ends up is not always where the leak is. Maybe someone has a good process for this, but I would assume that you would need to run all of the systems until you find the one that is leaking. With the tank out, you might be lucky enough to have access to much of the piping.
What year / type of bus do you have?
-
Ours is a 1992 Monaco , the bus has been inside all winter,I just got it in the fall and looking everything over . I air tested the water system before putting any water and found it had not been winterized ! Or not done right if it was ? Since the plywood under the rubber is wet I am think I’ll remove the gray water bank next and see what I find? Fresh water tank is ok. I put treatment in the solid tank and I am not getting any smell good or bad so I hope it’s not that one!
-
When you bring winterizing into the mix don't forget things like the washer, dishwasher, water heaters, ice maker, pumps etc. Could be coming from anywhere.
-
Thanks Mark , I’ll let you know when I find it , I am going to remove the gray water tank and check it for a leak, I’ll need to take it out to replace the plywood anyway.

Your coach is a few years older than mine so I assume it has the gray pipe throughout, but more on that in a second. I had something similar happen. I had water in the plumbing bay and it seemed to be coming from the fresh water tank because the plywood floor was wet around the tank. I discovered that the copper pipe leading up to the shower drain was leaking and water was traveling down the outside of the pipe and deposing on top of the fresh water tank and winding up on the bay floor. Long story short. The elbow running up the the drain floor had a hole in it. Corrosion I assume. I plugged it with Silicon and that was it! I pray it never has to be replaced. Tearing up the tile floor is the only alternative.
The other thing is this gray pipe. I just replaced several feet of it and the connections with Pex. I had another leak behind the shower due to tired gaskets in the connections. That leaked into the plumbing bay in two places. One of which was also on top of the fresh water tank. Keep your eyes open for leaks at the gray pipe connections.

Thanks Chris , I have the aqua hot out ! It will be back from Co. Monday. I don’t see anything leaking down from above ? I only ran the shower a little , I have the hot and cold water connected now wit/h a by-pass at the aqua hot . I’m still going to have to remove the gray water tank to fix the floor , the plywood under it is also bad. I just hope it’s not the solid tank☹️but it seemed like it come from the back forward ? I have been in the plumbing and heating business for 45 years. Rule No. 1 it don’t have to make sense to be true

This is what the plywood looks like under the rubber!
-
wow! you have a project on your hands :-)
-
Sorry about the large pic! I took out both tanks and tested them ? I’m still not sure where the water was coming from but it’s not the tanks ! The black water tank looks fine. The plywood had to be replaced so I don’t feel to bad about taking out the two tanks . The aquahot returned from Co. Today so it’s time to start putting things back together

Now I m looking at my roof! There is a skylight above the back metal wall it could run in from the skylight and down the back side of the wall ? ,I am th.inking it ran down from being stored outside by the previous owner ? When we get the floor back in and the water tanks we will test for that I looked up there today , it did not look great !
-
Mark I am thinking it might have come down behind the metal wall from the skylight ?
-
Found oil on top of my drivers dual rear wheel, took the drivers fender off and found oil coming out of upper frame. Ended up being hydraulic locking pin for rear slide blew out the end seal. Problem is it was behind the shower wall. Got it out and rebuilt, but what a project.
Not a water leak, but a example of how a leak can travel. Sounds like your project might be more fun than mine. LOL

Mark , now I’m thinking the water came from the roof last summer the previous owner had it outside and last winter it sat out!im thinking the skylight leaked down the back wall there in the pic and ran in from the other side ? We replaced the fome, and the plywood today and got the gray water tank back in. It looks great

This bus is lucky to have you!
-
We’re hoping to have this done next week so we can move on to some small stuff!
-
Wow! What a project. I went through the same thing with water leaking as I mentioned earlier. I was lucky not having to replace plywood, catching my leak in time. So, I assume the leak was from the roof. Man, that must have been leaking for a long time. Everything is looking good what you have done. Pex tubing. Perfect but takes all the fun out of plumbing!
-
Yes I say they took the plumb out of plumbing with the pex pipe now it’s just ing ! So now you’re an inger not a plumber! We’re finishing the closet for the water now just some new led lights to do yet I’ll try to post a pic? Today I dropped off the exhaust pipe for the Aquahot to finish that up soon.

Wow, Wow, Wow.
That looks amazing.
Was it confirmed the leak was from the roof? Did you have any rotting in the bus floor?
Chuck
-
Yes the floor was very bad under the fresh water and gray water tanks , we replaced the plywood with PR. TREATED Plywood ! We tested the tanks when we had them out , no leaks so it had to come from a roof leak ? The bus is still inside and no water from all operations inside the bus !
-
Not any signs of a leak inside the bus !
-
I still think it’s the roof but I have not had it outside yet . I don’t have a lot of room where it is at to get on the roof ,when I move it to the garage at my house I have a cat walk to go out on the roof without a ladder
