JIM,
Great idea. We first got into Barrett-Jackson with Bob and Terry Lee's (Country Coach) Special Event rallies. The only way to do it is the VIP parking on the southside of the Polo Field so we all would be looking north down on the cars in the tents.
Now, wheels must be greased and those sites which West World did eventually place 50 amp plugs for use after we pazrked there. We were using our generators 24 hours a day, but there was water hookups and sewer suckers..
Later years, 2007-8 we were relegated to park in Lot O and P east of West World's RV office sitting in the muck whiched formed when it rained or snowed. Only those who have greased Barrett-Jackson machine or bought or sold cars at the auction are placed on the southside of the polo field.
I have begged with Mike Laurel of Barret Jackson since we were longtime participants with bidder's credentials, but since we hadn't bought anything, he wouldn't place us, so we quit going.
2007, which was our first year making reservations on our own, I had hard carded reserved spots in Lot G close to where the car lined up to be photograph before they went for prep prior going up on the block. But at the last minute our 4 resercations were bumped for a higher roller, who was given our sites, and we were introduced to Lot "O" east of WW RV office. The rest went downhill.
This past November, we thought about going and staying at Gary's recommendation Eagles View, but they were booked. It wouild have been less money and full hookups, but it just doesn't have the ambiance of being on site at the auction.

Jim,
You make excellent points. I doubt a rally at West World would be the stellar event as far as rallys go. The sites over the polo grounds are reserved for the B J high rollers. The rest of the sites are simply a desert parking lot with power and water. If you're not here for the B J Auction, it would not be my choice for a rally point.

During my stay at Eagle, they also had a smaller car auction at the Casino across the street. An anual event the same week as Barrett Jackson. It would be a great place for a
rally. Close to Scottsdale and West World and a nice Casino.
If not, certainly a mini rally.

I attended BJ two years running, (on the hill overlooking the field), and would not recommend it for a rally. It has no improvements..ie water/sewer, and when I attended, had a portable generator system to provide power. It is has no landscape, other than dirt. Got to be a lot of better places for a rally. Great place to drop a load of cash during the BJ auction!

We were parked on the south of the polo field was hard surface pavement. We had just water hookup, ran ourgenerators, sat outside under our awnings and enjoyed at mosphere. Our first time there was with a special events Country Coach rally, and we had a ball. Did a community happy hour, joined small groups for a meal did our own thing at the auction during the day. Ouur coaches are fully self contained, who needs hook ups, I tbink B-J is a great venue. Featherlite anddNewell go aand rally. The key is to be parked polo field south, on the tarmac, anywhere else is a mudhole or dustbowl
