Elevation Software?

A couple of years ago when we were preparing to head out to Santa Fe for POG2 (wow that feels like a long time ago), someone posted an image, which was an elevation view of the route they were taking. It was really nice, as you could display your elevation change, along a linear view.

The software used to display that image was never mentioned, so I'm wondering if anyone here knows about any such software.

As I'm planning a trip in unfamiliar territory, it would be nice to be able to look at the elevation change, and realize whether I'm taking a road better left untraveled?

Anyone know of such software, or a web URL that does the same?

In case anyone may be interested in elevation profiling, it looks like Delorme Topo USA will do exactly that.
