Fresh Water Tank Sanitizing

Hello,
I have read different thoughts on how much bleach to use when sanitizing fresh water tanks.

Some say 1/4 cup per 15 gallons....thoughts?

Is adding a bit of bleach per tank when using...some have said one tablespoon per tank...thoughts on that?

Dave,

Camping stores sell products for tank disinfection. Here's what the EPA suggests. I would not add chlorine with each fill of city water when the coach is in use.

Thanks Gil, I don't have any documentation on how large my fresh water tank is....I have a 1998 XL Featherlight...any guess on the size?

I would never put 1/4 of a cup for 15 Gallons that's way too much if you ask me if you use the bus frequently in your taking water on at home all the time it's almost not even necessary.

Generally speaking, when you service the system, unless your source is well water, you're servicing it with chlorinated water. Looks to me like adding Clorox and flushing it out periodically is, for the most part, a waste of time, energy and water. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anytime I ever use bleach in my holding tanks all's I'd put in were capfuls of bleach and after a thorough flushing you could still smell it a little bit for the next couple of tank Fulls.

In the water treatment world, detectable chlorine is usually considered adequate for drinking water. If you can smell the chlorine, it is above minimum detectable.
