Anyone interested in a good antenna choice for over the air reception? Here's a short video on the Razar Automatic. (CLICK HERE) (https://youtu.be/dbGOF2O2bzc)

Hi Gil,

I had one installed last year, love it. Push one button and it locks in on local stations...We always like to watch local and national news on NBC..

Had the Razar when it first came out. Failed 3 times in the first year, but winegard was very good about it and promptly replaced all three at no charge

The fake news satellite reciever. No thanks.

Yo Hungry Billy. I'm going to have to call you and you're going to have to teach me what you were doing with TV through your phone a little while back when we hooked up down in LaBelle Florida. You're getting more than a sufficient amount of variety to keep me happy I don't recall any buffering and it was totally free you're going to have to school me on that cuz I've about had it with DirecTV and you are showing me that there is now definitely a solid, quality alternative, that's free.

Nother couple years i bet these satalite dishes r going to be antiques

Chuck,

I was told the same by a Winegard employee. I'm glad they figured it out.

Hello,

Early on there were issues with the unit...bad reviews and I waited a long time before installing. I had it installed last summer and immediately it showed an error message. My installer replaced the cable between roof unit and controller. Ever since it has been working perfectly. Push a button on controller to search and lock in and then scan my TV for the local channels. Love the local and national news, some shows on NBC, ABC and CBS. Plus there are stations like MeTV which show all the classics for the 1950's to 1980's

Thinking of installing one on my H3. The current (old) antenna is in the recessed area on the back roof of the coach. If I install one of the Razar units I will have to put it up on the main roof. How do I find the stronger frame members to screw in to, or is that not an issue because the Razar is so light I can just screw it into the roof.

Chuck, you can build a simple mount to raise the antenna in the same location it's at now. You could also move it to the roof just forward of the rivet line, which is where mine is. If you use a good adhesive sealant under the mounting pads, you can put wherever you want. The adhesive will secure the antenna and it doesn't have enough wind load to matter. There's very little wind at that height near the rear of coach even without roof airs. With roof airs there's even less wind.

Joe call me anytime. Always good to hear from you.

We dumped DISH at home after 16+ yrs. Happy with DISH overall but realized 95% of what we actually watched on TV was OTA channels anyway. I do miss FOX NEWS (the other 3 on a national level are garbage - commentary and opinions - not news IMHO). Went to TIVO at home. 2 OTA BOLT boxes at $7.50 each/month. Easy access to channel guide, DVR, many apps HULU, NETFLIX, PRIME VIDEO and many more.

We use AMAZON FIRESTICK in the bus with a Verizon phone as hotspot. We do have paid subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu, Prime which along with many more are accessible with FIRESTICK. Probably spend $50/month for TIVO, Netflix, Hulu, Prime. Totally dependent on satisfactory internet data connection to work. OTA antenna in bus would be nice for those times with no internet data avail. This one Gil and David mentioned looks like a winner. We haven't traveled enough yet to experience no internet signal :-).

I did discover if I need a news fix I can get FOX on XM Radio. Same as TV just audio only.

PS I found one 22.5 Alcoa narrow Pete oval Budd wheel new. $460 I'll keep looking.

Gil:
Do you have any knowledge of how well the pictured install worked? Can’t imagine it work well being so blocked by such a low installment

I worked on an H in Michigan that had a installation just like that and I don't recall him having any complaints but I thought the same thing that can't be good. I would test it hook it up and put it there and see how it does before you mount it in. Make a spacer for it just raise it up an inch or two

The sunken installation probably worked well closer to the broadcast stations. Once they got further from the broadcasters the more impact it would have had on reception.

If you're close enough and pointed in the right direction the indoor window mounted antennas will work. The whole reason to spend so much for the Razar is to maximize coverage.

On my previous coach I installed this antenna on the base of no longer functioning Concorde antenna. Zero roof penetrations in the upgrade.

As an FYI - you can order a Winegard MT-8500 mount for the Rayzar antenna - it will bring the unit up 6”. It’s not cheap at $85.00, but I’m in Texas and a lot of parks are fairly remote. You will have to call Winegard direct to order.

Just finished up installation this afternoon - the optional mount brings the antenna up to just above the awnings. Not too high, not too low - think its just about right.16352

That looks great, but not nearly as nice as that clean bright white roof.

I can thank the backside of my pants for that nice polished look!

Ours is located at roof level, in the center. While it may be shielded by the awnings, we have not experienced any noticeable reception problems.

We do have Dish and high speed internet streaming so we only use over the air TV when traveling and just stopped for the night.

Darn Les

That bus is so shiny I can see you took the picture at 10 after 3 on the clock reflection in the coach. Been doing some shining during the stay at home orders?

Yes, I have been doing some machine buff and polish. Distracted now with replacing my Guest charger. Hope not too much dust collects... :)

Just a heads up to anyone doing an upgrade to this antenna. If you are hoping to use the original cable remember that the unit will only work with less than 30 feet of cable. My original install was about 32 and would only get error messages saying no antenna connection. Had to move the unit further ahead and used the 20 foot cable that came with it. Now it appears to work as intended. Unfortunately this meant laying cable on top of the coach which was not what i wanted but ended up being the only solution. Just a heads up. Its in the install instructions but had hoped it wasnt quite that sensitive. It is.

I will add my good review to the comments. Easy install on the coach roof.

Prior to install I might get a couple TV channels.

Now, I received 8RF channels on the search panel which translates into 33 channels on the TV. All with great picture.

AND, my coach was inside a metal aircraft hangar over 50 miles from the nearest broadcaster.

You can also hook your cable feed into the unit for seamless digital TV and cable at the park.

Next step will be a cellular router to stream content from the internet. No satellite on this coach.

Gil, after watching your video on the RAZER I bought one for my 2000 CC. I was planning on installing it where my old batwing antenna was, but the instructions say it has to be about 25 feet from the controller. All of my controls are in the bedroom, do you have any suggestions in installation?

Thanks,

I saw your YouTube video, bought a Razar with stand and installed it. Works great, I learn a lot on this board.
