Roger is a winner...isn't he always. But he was only half right.

This is an "Alligator" brand valve stem cap. Which, I hate these! They DO NOT seal as even stated by the manufacturer. Use a metal cap with a gasket that's intended to seal. They can save you if you have a valve core that begins to leak.

This was worn down by it's movement back and forth on a wheel. It was attached to a valve stem extension that was not secured by a rubber donut. The one on the other side of the coach did the same with a rubber donut. The donut was not inserted into the wheel opening.

FWIW, if I'm moving a coach without a donut I remove the valve stem extension.

If alcoa had half a brain and any sence of style they would stop manufacturing the 9in rims with the smaller holes.

If they had the larger holes of the 8 1/2 in rims u wouldnt need to use ANYTHING on the inner duel because u can easily stick the inner stem with any chuck and the bigger holes look much better too. Safety issue that could be easily eliminated.

That is a Gator cap that has been beat to death by the wheel. Nothing holding the valve stem in place.

The only way you can even use one of those on the outer dual for a drive tire and still be able to put air in the tire with the nine inch rims with those small holes when you want to is, you have to get the valve stem that's a short Little J it turns it out for you because if you just try to take one of those caps and stick it on the normal straight valve stem it's going to protrude into that stupid little 9in rim small hole justfar enough so that with no matter what Chuck you got you ain't going to stick that Chuck in that stupid little hole with the stem through there and air it up it's impossible. The moral of the story is those little J shaped valve stems for the outer duals is a good thing with the nine inch rims for sure.

now the inner tire

If you get the right air chuck and tire pressure gauge with the straight chuck on it too, you can get into the inner dual through the little nine inch holes to check air pressure and put and remove air and you don't need any kind of an extension on the inner valve stem. With one of those little valve stem caps that Gill had a picture of to start this thread. You wouldn't need an extension you just be screwing it right into the inner dual valve stem and it wouldn't vulnerable and the tires capped and you can air through it.

This would be certainly the way to have valve stems on the 8&1/4 in rims that have the bigger more stylish holes.

safer less bull..... just saying
