Highway 101 travel

We are planning a trip from Newport Or. to Redwood National Park, Calif. and we're thinking about traveling down Hwy 101 rather than I-5, for a more scenic drive. Any suggestions or cautions about driving my bus on Hwy 101? I've heard that there are restrictions on where a 45 ft. bus can travel, especially in California.
