Most of us have stayed at a WalMart or similar situation on occassions when we didn't want to take the time or trouble to go to a campground. This short video provides some reminders of do's and don'ts.

I have concluded when traveling with a significant other...........the campground costs me less in the end.

I usually call ahead to a RV campground . I have stopped in rest stops, WalMart, & truck stops. Usually only staying 4 to 6 hours. Iits ok for a little sleep.

Since about 1998 I have stayed in Walmart s across the country and allot of rest areas, some truck stops but you are taking a chance of some trucker backing into your coach and before you can get woke up he could be gone also truck stops as we know can be kind of seedy ?
But on the road anywhere you should always be aware of your surroundings, Walmart in the past before retiring were nice because we had say 2 weeks to go to Yellowstone park, I called it white knuckle driving , when you leave home you need to get there ASAP long driving hours, and of course when we arrive everyone's raring to go but Dad who just drove 1000 miles in a couple days, so just for a few hours sleep and needing no hookups a campground seemed useless, In Daytona beach area one time absolutely all campgrounds were full and we were passing through the Walmart said no overnight camping I was just to tired so I pulled in and stayed the night the sirens woke me up in the night the police had pulled over a small car in the lot when they were done with him they left, the next day while in Walmart I talked to them about there sign, they said the town made them post that to force people to use the campgrounds in the area they had no problem with it, ( I still wouldn't suggest doing it again )
But now I can take a Month to go to Yellowstone if needed,
but still, like on the way back home from wintering in Az, it's tornado season so no sightseeing on the way home and I hit just about anyplace I can pull in people are allot nicer when you are driving a Prevost vs my older 32 ft Georgia boy Maverick,
We always try to drive the smaller highways and see different things, like coming out of Tucumcari NM we hit 54 and took it all the way to Osage beach in Missouri, one time,
This time we took 54 home and went north in selena Kansas ended up just west of Lincoln Nebraska on I 80,
Just beat the storms,
There was just a special on TV about how dangerous Walmart parking lots were rapes robbings ect ect seems the outdoor cameras were pretty much useless but the indoor cameras were watching everything.
No matter where you stay always be aware off your surrounding and be able to protect your self in someway,
When seconds count the police are just minutes away,,,,,,,,,,,,
I don't know how long I could live in the bus with no hook ups we do it for about a week every year going to the NASCAR race in Los Vegas,
Dry camping if we tried to conserve water I am sure allot longer,
It's kinda funny I called ahead this trip for a spot to stay over they had one left told them what I was driving and how long and I didn't want any trees hitting my bus still no problem I drove a long ways that day and arrived at the RV Park I had a bad feeling when I pulled in it pretty much shut the whole park down no one could move my spot was dirt and gravel very uneven not close to being long enough and I couldn't fit in there if I had to, trees on both sides also all overgrown I had to Un hook the jeep and go find another rv Park in the next town, I wasn't happy, so you never know ???
The flip side was we found a really beautiful park and the rates were very good we ended up staying almost a week instead of over night.
It was Distant Drums RV park Camp Verde az, rode the motorcycle to Jerome and then Sonoma and then prescott , and ate dinner at the casino one night and the park offered a wine and cheese tasting party while we were there , I think we will go back next year, the good Lord willing,
Really nice park,
