No Fuel to Generator

[Life is good]

Is there a primary pump that supplies the diesel to the generator or does the pump on the gen pull it from the tank. Marathon 2000 H3-45.

Mark to my knowledge the generator pump is the only one.

Also the generator pickup is normally about 1/4 tank so that the generator cannot deplete all of the fuel.

Will it run until u take your finger off the start button?

OR

When U hit the start button does the fuel rack solenoid energize and pull the linkage or not.

OR

Will it stay running if U manually hold the fuel rack linkage open.

On the Marathon the fuel pump at the gen set is the only one. I've replaced mine twice over 7 years and found that exact pump at NAPA for +/- $200.
