View Full Version : GPS with gas prices and more...
The annual consumer electronics show is about to start and some announcements are already rolling out... amoung them are two Garmin GPS navigation devices ("http://garmin.msndirect.com/NavigationDevices.aspx") that offer traffic updates, fuel prices, weather reports (but no radar overlay or anything fancy like that) and movie times.

This available in an updated version of the device I use everyday and comes with 12 months worth of a subscription and after that you'll be paying for those extra services, just like with satellite radio.

Hey Ben,
I bought Bob-00 a Garmin Nuvi 660 for Christmas. So far it works great with the exception of the mounting. It came with optional windshielf suction cup or dash mount. The dash mount is simply a circle with a sticky back. The suction cup is SUPPOSED to stay stuck to that. So far, we have had no luck with keeping it in place. Any suggestions? Meanwhile, I ordered the bean bag mount yesterday and I know that won't fall off!
I have not watched the accompanying CD completely as yet--what type of memory card does your Nuvi use? I would like to download some audio books. I highly recommend this unit--it is lightweight, has a large screen, is poratable from vehicle to vehicle and has a built in FM transmitter which enables you to listen to books, music, etc. through your car speakers.
One other question, how often do you update your map files?
Hi Debi,
I use the windshield mount... it comes off about evey other month and all I have to do is wet the suction cup and re-attach it. I think it comes off that often because I frequently remove the GPS unit to use in my car and that jars the mount a little each time.
The Nuvi uses Secure Digital cards (also known as SD cards) I believe.
I have not updated the maps on my unit... you can also do a firmware update via Garmin's web site... and then you can choose if you want your position to be marked by a sports car or monster truck icon!

Thanks for the info Ben--What, no Prevost bus icon:confused: In the jeep the windshield is very slanted so we elected not to mount the GPS there. I ordered another suction mount and also the beanbag mount that a fellow POG'er had mentioned a couple of months ago. Other then the mount issue we love this toy!~
