Please advise. Recently bought '04 Prevost that needed some interior changes for updates and personal taste. Anyway bought new wall scone lights and installed them. They were regular lights used in home applications. Took old fixture bulbs because they were handy and put in new fixtures. They worked ok and would dim twice at the switch. They put out very little light and in looking for higher wattage bulbs found that regular household 60 watt bulbs were the correct ones, but they will not work in new fixtures. Old bulbs are 24 volt, 40 watt. Does anyone know what is going on and what I can do to get more light? Thanks, MikeS

A 120 volt fixture with 24 volt lamps will work on a 24 volt circuit but not a 120 volt lamp. Is this what you are asking?

If you replaced the 24V/40 watt bulbs with 120 volt/60 watts, by theory, your amperage draw will only be about 1/3 (.5 amps comapred to 1.66 amps) of what it was, so it is not going to work. Although I don't know that the theory is applicable to the situation since you still only have 24 volts available instead of the 120 volts the new bulbs need. Of course, you can replace the 24v with 12v, and they will be really bright for a few minutes (until they burn out). If you had 24v bulbs, you will need to go back with 24v.

Mike,
You will need 24V bulbs with E26 bases. These should be easy to find at any large marine store. Here's an LED version that's available in 24V: http://store.marinebeam.com/e26-e27-12v-24v-screw-base-led.html

Yes, thanks Gary,
Actually thought the lamps were 120 volt, but found out they were in fact 24 volt when i put in 120 volt bulbs and they didn't work. 24 volt, 40 watt bulbs don't give off much light in these new, now unreturnable 120 volt fixtures.

Thanks, Gil......went to the site and don't know whether to order 4W or 7W....Fixtures have shades and will dim 2 levels lower.

Never mind, Gil...Thanks, I just needed to read a little further.
Make sure you ask MarineBeam for "frosted" bulbs unless the shades are very opaque. On unfrosted you may see the individual LEDs. Jeff is hugely helpful and I like his products. I just installed the tube replacements.

Still looking for 24 volt candelabra type bulbs with E12 base. Can't locate any with wattage higher than 18 and those are not bright enough. Also would like to dim them when necessary. If anyone has any info or knows of a source, please let me know. Thanks, MikeS
Try marinebeam.com and if you don't see what you need, email the owner as he often has new products not yet on the website. Great folks to work with.
