Interested in a 2005 CC - 45/XL d/s

I've noted on the production order build sheet the following info:

Date - 7-24-03

Cut Date - 11-3-03

Ship Date - 2-09-04

Then I've got a chasis number. How does one determine the chasis date and is this infact a 2005 or a 2003-04 because of the build/ship dates? I know it could be titled "never" and be marketed as a 2012 but how do you get to the true origination and yr of the coach in order to reconcile age of equipment/components and so forth?

Thank you

If you count back 8 digits on the VIN that will give you the shell date and it should be a 4 in this conversion,if it is a 3 then that is a totally different shell, the slides are different as well as the front axle rating(18,000) vs (17200) and the front and tag tires should be 365s instead of 315s.The 04 shell is a real update from the 03 shell. The converters can title a conversion any year that they want,I have seen a 2007 Featherlite that was a 2003 shell, the price should be adjusted accordingly.

Gershwin - Based on the dates you found it is PROBABLY a 2003 shell that was completed in early 2004 and titled as a 2005 - NOT an unusual situation - The 10th digit of the VIN # will tell you the year of the shell for sure

10th digit back is a 4.

And yea I'm familiar w / the 03 feathlite that was marketed as an 07 - saw that coach at liberty some years back.

Speaking w/ a broker yesterday he stated 06 was the next generation Prevost. I was under the impression that it was the 05. However I guess what I'm hearing is as long as it is an 2004MY chassis then this is when you'll find the upgrades.

Is there a comprehensive list of what those changes were so one can make a determination if it is worth the increase in budget and consideration thereof.

Thanks again.

I had an 05 Liberty and I can assure you that it was an 04 shell and it had the 365s etc.the next change was the no pin slides(actually one pin) that came with the 07 shell model year.

Gershwin - You need to be looking at 10th digit from the front, or the 8th digit from the back, not the 10th digit back.

4 is the 10th from the front.

The 10th character is a letter or number. In your case 4 equals 2004. Therefore, the information you are referring to in your original message would seem to be Prevost data and not CC data. The data span you referred to would seem to come from Prevost gviven the span is so long.

FWIW, I have no idea why any state allows these converters to issue manufacturer statement origins using the Prevosy VIN while changing the year. The VIN identifies the year and the manufacturer. It seems to me our buses should either be registered as Prevosts or a new VIN should be created by the converter. As state DMV systems become more automated I suspect a Prevost VIN being registered as the wrong year or as something other than a Prevost will cause a problem.

You are right. By example if an unknowing buyer is to buy a 2005 advertised bus one would expect that bus came off the floor in 2004-05. this holds true w/ the automotive industry and manufactured rv industry and I believe boat industry. This is an anomaly only to bus conversions - I think. Theoretically the example bus could be a 2001,2002,2003,2004 or 2005 shell/conversion and titled as such unless buyer aware of vin and this anomaly.

Gershwin, Do you know who the original owner of the Bus was? I might have some info on that unit.

No I sure don't it's being sold by a broker. I think I've determined it won't work because of the interior configuration. I was really trying to find out what chassis date I need to determine on any coach that incorporates the latest engineered components and 365 tires.
