It's time to begin gauging interest and building the list of attendees for Oysterfest 2012 to be held at Bella Terra RV Resort - Foley (Gulf Shores), AL March 15-18,2012 (alternate dates March 8-11,2012). If you haven't visited Bella Terra - check it out! It's one of the top rated RV Resorts in the country and is top notch in every way! http://www.bellaterrarvresort.com/

Oysterfest 2011 was well attended with 30 coaches participating. A fabulous time was had by all in attendance!

Please express your interest/intention to attend in this thread, along with any suggestions and/or requests you have.

I will call Courtney at Bella Terra next week and pre-reserve at least 25 spots for the dates above. Once we get a "concensus" on which dates the majority prefers, i'll lock it down with Bella Terra and begin planning the details based on the input of the group.

Let's eat some oysters! :D

OOPS/Alabama is on the way to Florida,so the 15th would still probably work,as we are scheduled to move our coach east from Texas

We looked at Heritage when at OysterFest and thought it to be beautiful, but I doubt that they could hold 20+ coaches for a rally, didn't seem that big-but beautiful

Michael The 15th would only work for us. Do you know when the dates will be firm? We may have another couple that may want to come but can't make plans til we know the dates for sure. Thanks Rick

Heritage has a very good rental program and can handle 20 or more coaches...Liberty had a Rally here...There are 29 unsold units with owner rental lots to boot,so again you guys should consider Heritage for your get togethers...

Michael we would like to join ya'll and stay at Heritage for obvious reason so I guess I am asking do you have activities planned at Bella Terra??? Can you provide me with any agenda???

We won't be able to make it this year. That's the weekend we leave for a couple days in Zimbabwe to see Victoria Falls and then on to South Africa for three weeks. Hope you have a great time.

Rick - the responses so far are running heavily in favor of the 3/15-18 dates, so I'm going to go ahead and make an "executive decision" to lock Oysterfest 2012 down for March 15-18, 2012. This is, of course, contingent upon confirming space available at Bella Terra for those dates, but I'll be in contact with Courtney Fox at Bella Terra this week and do not anticipate a problem.

Greg - Bella Terra was exceptionally accommodating with lot assignments, helping to plan/coordinate events, funding/acquiring vendors, etc. Also, the resort and meeting/party facilities are perfect for our little "rally". If, for some reason, Bella Terra is unable to accommodate our preferred dates this year, I'll certainly check with Heritage!

Okay - so far, we have 13 POGgers who have expressed their interest/intention to attend Pysterfest 2012 at Bella Terra - March 15-18, 2012.

Here's the first of, what will be many, running lists of attendees. Those of you who attended last year know the drill. When we get closer to the dates, I'll get Courtney to assign the slots and will post them here so you know who your neighbors will be!

The list 4 days into planning Oysterfest 2012 looks like this:

Reagan - Oysterfest 2012 is set for Bella Terra March 15-18,2012 pending confirmation of space available from Courtney Fox at Bella Terra (which I anticipate today). You were right - the 60th Annual Fairhope Arts & Crafts Festival is scheduled the same weekend (March 16-18), but since there were no discernable conflicts last year, I'm optimistic that it won't get in our way this year either!

By the way - are you in? We'll be needing us some of your famous Oysteritas! :p

Courtney Fox has just informed me that Bella Terra is booked solid already with another rally on the original dates I requested (March 15-18, 2012). So it looks like we'll have to move to the weekend before (March 8-11, 2012). I sincerely hope that this change doesn't negatively impact anyone who has already expressed interest, but the adjustment is unavoidable. Courtney has confirmed that the weekend of March 8-11 is available, so there won't be another date screw-up (he says with confidence). :o

So....

1.) If you're on the list to attend and the date change prevents you from participating, let me know and I'll reluctantly remove you from the attendees list.

2.) If you are interested in meeting/fellowshipping with like minded POG bus nuts while enjoyng large quantities of fresh gulf oysters (currently going for only $4.50 a dozen according to Courtney) and the adult beverages of your choice, along with a few special events/surprises - then get your name on the list and let's make this the best Oysterfest so far!

I apologize sincerely for the date change (This rally coordinating stuff ain't for sissies!) :o

Any chance of checking out Heritage for the 15-18th March.. not for sure yet we can make the 8-11th. ?? Just asking?
I know you love Bella Terra but change might be good too?

We're confirmed at Bella Terra for March 8-11 now, but based on the earlier dates conflicting for some, I going to check with Heritage tomorrow in a last ditch effort to stick with the original dates of March 15-18. Concern has been expressed that Heritage is a bit tight to navigate, but I have no personal experience there. I'll report back here tromorrow afternoon as soon as I can get a feel for if Heritage is able to accomodate a 30+ coach rally on the preferred dates. Once I check with
Heritage and assess the feasibility of a change of venue, I'll make a final decision and publish the info here.

We are out. Unfortunately in cold snowy Western Maryland, our bus is stuck in a heated warehouse till April. Hope to build my own barn this summer.

Liam - sorry to hear you won't be able to join us! I'll eat an extra dozen oysters for you! :p

According to their web site, I couldn't drive past Bella Terra Resort's entrance. They specifically restrict usage to Class A motor homes no more than 15 years old. What's up with that?

David, trust me, you would be more than welcome at Bella Terra. When you show up with a well maintained Prevost they do not question you. Last year, we had 30 + Prevost at Oysterfest and to the best of my knowledge no one was asked the age. In fact, some of us are going to be there later this month for a few days. Talk to Courtney, tell her you have a Prevost, and enjoy the hospitality at Bella Terra.

Prevost coaches are "almost" always excempt from that rule. They have the same rule in most high class resorts and I've never heard of a Prevost being turned away !! French Quarter RV in New Orleans has the same rule and I've seen beautiful "older" coaches in there.

Forgot to mention that I think they are trying to avoid the families of 10 or more in an old school bus from staying with them LOL !!
I know they're out there I've seen them on the road !!

Okay, here's the final deal: I've checked Heritage (and also several other similar RV resorts in the coastal Alabama/Florida Panhandle area) and it's going to be Bella Terra for Oysterfest 2012 on March 8-11, 2012.

Heritage did not have adequate space available on the original desired dates, nor on the alternate dates. Further, they expressed no real desire to work with me toward a solution. The other resorts I checked all had deficiencies of one kind or another, from lack of adequate availability to lack of interest. At least Bella Terra wants us there in the worst way and bends over backward to insure we are accommodated to our satisfaction!

Courtney has put us on the calendar and Bella Terra is ready to begin accepting reservations now! Courtney recommends that you call this month, if possible, to assure preferred placement. As long as we have 10 coaches or more, Bella Terra is extending POG a special Oysterfest rate of $35 per night (published rate is $50 - $60 depending on lot type). Here's the website link: http://www.bellaterrarvresort.com/

The phone number is (866) 417-2416. When you call, tell them you are with the POG Oysterfest Rally to get the special rate and preferred placement.

Okay folks - let's get busy clearing any conflicts, get your reservations made, and get ready to eat copious amounts of tasty, slimy oysters! I'll be announcing details of the loosely organized agenda in the next few weeks, as suggestions and specific expressions of interest accumulate.

I apologize again for the misfire on the original dates and sincerely HATE that I can't accommodate everyone's schedules (I want you ALL there!). But in the words of somebody famous somewhere, "It is what it is!" :D

Okay - sometime soon - I'll re-publish the early responder attendee list as I understand it at present and ask you all to correct me where I'm wrong or "demand" to be added! :p

Would it still be possible to switch to the 15th-18th then?

I just spoke to the Heritage and yes - indeed - they can accommodate us March 15-18. We need to let them know by Sunday 1-8-2012.

I am going to start a new thread for this. Please look at Heritage Mini-Rally March 2012.

Thanks

Jamie

Greg - my apologies, but I did not document the name of the young lady I spoke to at Heritage and can't recall it. Since it appears that it is a significant issue with some of the group, I'm reconsidering options and will report back shortly.

Jamie Bradford and I have agreed to combine Oysterfest 2012 and the Heritage Get Together events at Heritage, March 15-18, 2012. The rally will now be coordinated by and under the direction of Jamie Bradford and will surely be a premier event not to be missed!

For those who signed up for Oysterfest 2012 at Bella Terra for either of the dates, please accept my sincere apologies for the miscues on dates and venue!

As I said before, "this rally stuff ain't for sissies!" :p

Watch for further communications from Jamie regarding sign-up and reservation instructions, as well as information on planned events.

Have not been to either park, so as of 15 minutes ago our trip will include both.

I have Mapquest the mileage and from KC shows about 800 miles one way.

Jamie, sign us up. I think the St. Patrick part was the closer for Mary Ellen. As we all know, everyone can be Irish on St. Patrick's day.
