I have to be in Chicago for a few days so I figured I'd make a short vacation of it with my wife. Does anyone know of a good RV Park close in? Say from Joliet to Chicago proper? I appreciate any help.

We dry camped at ZipDee awning's place for two nights while they replaced my drivers side awnings twice.
be sure to get you and the Mrs. a steak at Webers Big Grill!
I do not recall a campground in the area

While passing through a few years ago I stayed overnite in KOA Northwest, which is the one nearest to Chicago. I think the deciding factors were how tired I was and that they had pull through sites available. Fine by KOA standards, but nothing special. Here is the link. http://koa.com/campgrounds/chicago/

In May, 2010 we had business in Chicago and stayed at the Empress Casino Hotel & RV Park in Joliet.
I believe the name has since been changed to Hollywood Hotel.

It's nothing fancy but is close to the interstate, has a security patrol, concrete level pads (a bit narrow) and is located away from the casino night life.
As you enter the grounds watch for the small RV sign on your left.

We dry camped in the lay down yard of the McCormick Center. $20 a night and you can ride a bike to downtown.

Our last trip that way we stayed at the Empress Casino. It is nice enough, but not close in. About 45 minute hike to downtown with no traffic. If I was just dropping in for a couple of days I would try Jerry's suggestion of the McCormick Center and just drycamp. Chicago is a tough place to find something close in.............I also liked the idea of ZipDee. May be a good option. Good luck. Hope to see you at the Fat Beagle.

Alek,
Thanks for the offer it would be nice to see you and Lucia again but I figure now would be a good time to have my awning worked on so we've decided to dry camp at Zipdee. That plus we are going up to Wisconsin for a couple days after Chicago so we'll be close from there. Hope to see you both at POG10
Tony,
Look forward to seeing you and Jenny in Kerrville

There is no convenient or close campground anywhere near the city.
However the marshaling yard or lay down lot for mc cormick place. Is the perfect location for a weekend in the bus in chicago. It's on the lakefront right downtown. Very inexpensive. There is a guard 24 7 365 at the gate it is very well protected and safe. This is a lot they use to tailgate bears games too.
If there is an event weekend at the convention center depending on what it is it could be very full but always space. No event weekends u got acres. Another great mini rally spot.
