Tire prices going up

A good friend of mine runs a highway department and was told by the tire supplier that in the begining of the year tires will be going up 25%. something about Japan buying the raw rubber product and causing a shortage. Anyone else hear this? If it true and you need them then before the increase is good timing.

This is the time of year when we start to receive price quotes from our suppliers. 2010 pretty much remained flat with 2009 pricing on parts and tires. Tire quotes have been coming in for 2011 anywhere from 5 to 9 percent higher. My experience when I hear about a 25 percent increase coming, is a number that salesmen like to throw at you when they have a glut of inventory that they need to move now.
