Heading from Gettysburg to Boothbay.

Google maps shows most direct route as I-78 over into NJ, then I-95 up to I-84 and on up. That feels a little congested with lots of city driving just looking through the maps.

More indirect route by 100 miles or so, but much less congested and fewer major metro areas is I-81 up to I-88 towards Albany, then I-90 on over to 84.

Any suggestions on road conditions, scenery, less hassle etc? We are taking it easy over a couple of days so we have plenty of time.

Thanks.

Gordon,

Good Morning.

Get to I-81 take it to I-84 in Scranton (Shookie lives there). Take I-84 east to I-90, the Massachusetts Turnpike. Take the Mass Pike to I-290. Take I-290 to I-495. I-495 to I-95 near Amesbury Mass. Now you can't avoid I-95 so take it to Exit 52. It is signed as a "To I-295" route. I think it is Maine Route 196. That takes you into Brunswick where you pick up US #1. US #1 takes you almost to Boothbay. Exit US #1, well actually take the right turn onto Maine Route 27, and the campground is about 7 miles down the road on the right side. There is a downgrade into the registration office with two registration lanes. Stay to the left lane!

Call me at (910) 690-5631 if you need more directions. We arrived yesterday and have already begun our attack on the lobster population!
