Gordon,

Kinda like choking down a phlegm ball. But if they are fried it seems to de-bugger them some.

Gordon,

Kinda like choking down a phlegm ball. But if they are fried it seems to de-bugger them some.

Exactly JDUB - why my Dad calls phlegm balls throat oysters....

Fry them or fry your senses by completely saturating the salt water loogies with tabasco and horseradish

sawdust_128

Oysters are deep water loogies, boogers or cold water snots.
Clams are shore-line or low-tide loogies
Mussels are blue boogies
Snails are sling-shot snots. Not periwinkles, they don't fly straight.

For boys 8 to 14 these along with segmented sand worms and baby eels were dare food (live worms and eels).

At least that's what I remember from growing up in the Oyster Bay area.

A more recent addition to the seafood dictionary came from a relative from Germany. She refused to eat shrimp because they remind her of garden grubs and she refered to them as bugs. Funny thing is that she is not wrong.

Shady Acres Campground just off DIP (Dauphin Island Parkway) close to I-10. The phone number is 251-478-0013 and the website is www.shadyacresmobile.com. Just tell them you're with the oyster-eating POG group. Hope you can make it.

In case they will bow out we will put this spot for POG charity auction :D:D:D

Sandy,

The only person that can EDIT your post is you! If someone else says they are going to attend you have to EDIT your post that has the list of names by adding their name.:D

Wish we could make it; but we are prepping for my grandson's crawfish boil on March 27th. He is getting married in April. Louise has got me working my tail off! I thought the house was clean, but according to her it has to sparkle. I don't understand women.

Tuga is right, Sandy. Just go to the post that you added and look for the edit option at the bottom of the page. Only you can see the edit link so only you can edit the post.

Now, if I get through my treatment in Houston this week and can still drive the bus, Jan and I will be there. I know that Jerry and Rae Winchester are stopping Friday night on their way home from mouseville and I thought Jon and Di Wehrenberg were coming.

Well darn, Jan and I will not be at the Mobile Oyster Fest next week. I had some funky lab work yesterday and am having to get shots for three days to increase my white and red blood cells. Instead of getting my Chemotherapy today and heading home tomorrow, we're stuck in Houston until at least Wednesday. Doc says no go as far as making the trip.
You all have great fun and we'll see you next time.

Ann and I will have to cancel our Oyster Fest trip. A problem has come up at work that has caused a big change in our plans. I need to be home next week and need to spend a day in Jacksonville for work issues.

I hope everyone has a good time and we will see you all another time.

Andre and Ann. Tell the folks at work that eating oysters is more important than work and come on. We are sorry to hear yall will miss out on the festitives. If that is what they are called.

I worked in a restaurant in Ft Walton Beach while in USAF as an Oyster Shucker (help with $$$ in 1966-70). Appalachicola does have GREAT oysters but we usually had East Bay's from Pensacola as they were as good but much less trouble to open. Apps' were clumped and difficult to open, but Oh So Good. Wanted to make Mobile but stuck with family things here in Colorado.

I went out early this morning and made a couple pictures of the buses. The sun wasn't right for one, but maybe you get the jest of it anyway.

Eric, Deb and Jay were there in their beautiful new Liberty, (the single bus picture) so we all got a tour of it.

We got to meet a relatively new member of POG. Darrell Graham who lives about 20 miles from Mobile came by to visit a couple times and brought us each a 5 lb box of shrimp. He is the gentleman in the middle of the picture, standing behind the box. Darrell, we all really appreciate the shrimp.

Jamie and Debbie had their little puppy with them. Tom and Nancy showed up without their bus, but with the new motorcycle. We had 10 or 11 buses and had a very good time. Ate way too much seafood.

Howdy all POG folks from Eric and Debbie Faires in Huntsville, TN.

We are home after wonderful Th, Fri, Saturday, and then Sunday morning OysterFest Spring 2010 in Mobile with lots of POG buddies. Was so fun to see everyone and have nice visits.

Thanks POG member Darrell from Bayou Le Batre (I know it's not spelled correctly, but it is about 15 miles west of Mobile). We really appreciate gift of 5 pounds of shrimp. It will be so tasty. Some of the POG attendees already cooked their supply up at the Saturday night feast, but we were not able to attend that. We got to bring our supply home. We look forward to eating it. We thank you so much for being so generous. We also look forward to your beginning to post on the POG forum.

Although our 13 year old son Jay is no Alek or Lucia or Jon Wehrenberg, we think he is in training. Thursday night, he ate 5 dozen raw oysters. Friday night, he ate 5 dozen raw oysters plus 16 more cooked oysters on the sampler platter for a total of 76. Each night ended with dessert of bread pudding and ice cream. Not sure where he puts it, but he is growing.

We made it home from Mobile to our house non-stop, about 565 miles. Non-stop means not even for a bathroom break. Felt good to stand up when we pulled into our driveway (after I stopped the bus, of course). Good to be home. Very good to be with our POG friends. We enjoy your company, and thank you. We wish all our friends safe travels on their journeys home or elsewhere.

Eric, Debbie, and Jay Faires

We enjoyed seeing everyone and had a great time. Truk said the nightshirt wasn't his color so I kept it. The highlight of the weekend for me (other than a successful trip to the Beau Rivage Casino) was being inducted into the POG band for my work with the panjo, washboard and kazoo. Thanks, Ed and Sandy.

We're looking forward to doing it again soon.

The nightshirt was really Bonnie's and for some reason she didn't want to wear it with so many camera's around. Makes ya wonder why she keeps coming up with all this sheep stuff? Not that there's anything wrong with that!! What she didn't tell the folks that couldn't atttend the choke and puke, was she was a big winner at the Casino and refused to share the winnings with poor ole Donald, while flashing a handfull of hundred dollar bill's under everyone's nose. Word has it that the Casino was sending the limo on Saturday to pick-up their latest high roller.

Disclaimer - I can't find the spell check!

Sherry and I wanted to express our gratitude to everyone for their efforts in making this rally such a pleasant experience. We discussed during our ride home how although it was a long haul for a weekend it was well worth the trip. We had a great time and enjoyed making new friends. Hope everyone made it home without any problems. We hit a blizzard coming into Texas. Seemed quite bizarre with heavy snow blowing horizontal and even more so today as its going to hit 70 degrees. Ahh Texas weather!!!!!!!!!! Anyway can,t wait for our next POG trip (Maine) and more enjoyable experiences with the welcoming members of POG

Also, we made an unscheduled trip back to Mobile this afternoon. Hall's Motorsports burned this morning and there's nothing left but part of the walls and a lot of ruined inventory. The good news is that nobody was hurt and we will rebuild.

JDUB,
About 38 years ago, Donald, his brother and his dad opened a Suzuki dealership in Mobile for Donald's dad to run. We were never actively involved but have always been a part of the business that has grown over the years. There is now an additional location and we are in the process of buying out several other dealers but this is the main location that drives the train. They think it was an electrical fire that started in the attic but the fire department and insurance company will be doing investigations. It all happened very quickly so nothing (including personal items) was saved. No customer property was lost because the service department is in a separate building next door. Also, some of the inventory was still outside in crates and we have an additional warehouse that's a few miles away. That location sells Suzuki, Yamaha, KTM, Spyder and some Korean line of motorcycles as well as Waverunners, SeaDoos, parts, accessories, and, I'm sure some other things that I'm forgetting right now. It will take a while but it will all work out.
