Accessory Pulley

I need a little help from the experienced...........

I have a minor oil leak on the oil seal on the accessory pulley. This is the pulley located on the lower left of the engine when facing the engine from the rear. On my vintage, the accessory pulley drives the alternator.

In planning the repair, the options were to replace the accessory assembly, $465.00 from Stewart Stevens, or replaced the seal only. I opted for the seal, $8.25.

My question is
1 What is the torque value for retightening the large nut holding the pulley.
2 Is their a tip to getting the nut loosened.

When I attempt to loosen the nut, the engine turns.

What do you use to hold the accessory pulley when loosening the nut.

Probably to much data for most, but for you guys with grease under your nails, any comments. Any help appreciated.

Hector, I would make sure if the nut was right or left hand threads, then use an impact wrench to remove it. The impact should turn the nut without turning the engine. If you don't have an impact, I would try putting pressure on the belt while I turned the nut.

I agree with what Dale said, and maybe a spray of liquid wrench or similar if the nut looks dry and rusted.

I just looked at a 2000xl with the very same leak, very slight but very evident.

A web search should get you your torque #'s

We need the czar and I know he will produce.

Dale has sound advice on removal.

Dale beat me to it. An impact wrench will get the nut off.

I don't think the Detroit web site has torque values, but a call to the local DD dealer should get that info.
