I have the usual Sharp Microwave/Convection combo and have a weird amp draw question. On inverter, the micro pulls 14 amps, but when plugged into shore power or running the gen, it pulls 30 amps.

Can anyone explain this?

Tom, I just checked mine, and it draws 13 amps on shore power or inverter.

It must depend if you are nuking whole sheep or just sheep parts.

I doubt that the actual current draw is any different. Maybe the way the current is being measured is different. it sounds like it is just doubling the answer.

I would check the actual measuring device, compare it with another one, and compare other appliances.

HiTom. If your voltage reading is 115-120 volt, it should be 13 amps. Something might be reading the voltage at a much lower voltage.

Peter & Gary,

I've checked other devices using the same digital readout and they are always accurate. I know it can't be pulling 30 amps, but I'm at a loss as to how or where it picks up that measurement only on shore or gen. There must be an electrical gremlin somewhere.

Tom, When switching from inverter to an external source, the panel meter must change it's sampling source also. First suggest checking amperage on your external power cable (clamp on ammeter) which should confirm 13 amp draw. Then suggest one of those pesky relays behind the power panel might be the culprit.

Uh oh, now's the time Brian since I have an up close and personal look at things without the fridge! I don't even know where to start, so a warranty e-mail will probably follow....:o
