View Full Version : The POG at Oshkosh

Jerry Winchester

Just got off the phone with Mike and he and Jon have officially encamped at the previously discussed spot. The coaches have landed.

N630SU has made the trip from Houston to Rockford, Ill. (skirted around the front and the thunderstorms) and we are preparing for the evening hanger party before the mass flight tomorrow.

Will post some photos later, but the temp in Rockford is 72 but slightly wet. Much better than Houston.

Weil POG2OSh has officially started w/ the arrival of 3 busses.

We're looking forward to the arrival of JDUB and his FLying V's. Won't be the same this year without Pilot Lew to give us the tour airplane land.

Will post some Texas size photos tomorrow.

After making a bombing run on poor Lew, Jerry and the BonanzoEttes landed in mass today (100 planes) in Oshkosh. I have to tell you that Jerry flies a hell of a lot better than he drives that bus. Very impressive.

He and Rae are camped under the wing down the Hill from Park Prevost, so Jon, Al C and I are keeping close tabs on them from the comfort of our easy chairs.

Well we made it to OSH and we can use the airplane again, so it must have been a successful flight.

A great POG2OSH dinner last night at Camp Prevost. Mike whipped up some grub and we enjoyed the COOL weather. And we were able to retrieve my new scooter (remember the one Mike had at POG1) in his Toaster, so it is charged and we drove them over to breakfast this morning so life is good.

Mango & Jerry......hey that sounds like a group from the '60's Mungo Jerry!
Oh well, I digress, what Ellen would like to know is what is the brand, where can she get it, and is it a quality item? We purchased an electric folding bike a few years back and have had nothing but trouble. Ken

P.S. We wish we could be with you folks. Ellen is from nearby Appleton. Maybe we could plan a POG rally for Osh Gosh By Gosh for next year? Since Ellen still works, some one has too, we have to schedule vacation in advance.

Well we are in the catbird seat again this year with a parking spot on the end of the row right next to the approach end of RWY 9. Someone augered in at the other end of the runway first thing this morning, so it has been shut down until just now.

We have the premium viewing spot, so if Mike gets up here shortly we will post some pictures. All we need now is Lew.

Also, remember to post any pithy comments about Jon this week while he is out of touch. Mike told him last night that the POG had a new LED thread going in his honor.....

K & E,

Missin' you guys - but will see you shortly at Camp Hatteras.

This is the scooter you want - from Dave's Motors in Utah. Free Shipping if you mention Lew's name and waist size.

http://www.davesmotors.com/store/esr750ex.html

Make sure you get the EX model.

Mango

Heading down to Join the big guy on the flight line.

All you POGers, even if you're not a pilot or airplane fan (Lew take note) this is truly a fun event, well organized, nice people, great bus parking spot (dry camping next to the airfield) and a good time. Mark your calendar for next year as the Mango Mothership is definetly returning.

This is really pathetic. Jerry has gone too far this time. Just so he could keep his generator running to continue to post harrassing notes about Jon he's caught stealing fuel from some poor saps airplane.

The shame.

We are officially having too much fun. We spent the day judging the landings and watching some of the wildest flying in the world.

A little BBQ with the B2OSH crew (Mike took all the photos, so maybe he will post some shortly) and then we finished the night at Camp Prevost. And it would seem there is yet another Prevost amongst us. A fine looking 45'er that wandered in around 5pm. Wonder who that is?

We have been tag teaming Jon all day, so he is beat down. Only 2 P210's all day, so he is lonely. But all his new friends who are flying the longest continuous production airplane ever built are having fun at his expense.

Tuesday night is the big POG dinner, so it's not too late to break out a few LewBucks and get on over here.

Hey, my generator runs better on stolen gas. Especially AV gas. We have rounded up every anal pilot type around so we can keep Jon in new friends. So far he only offends every third one, so we are still ahead.

But Mike is up the hill with Jon and the mystery guest and we are down here next to the Sodomites (Mooney pilots), so a little fuel larceney is hardly noticed.

The boys at the official Bonanza BBQ dinner. Note Jon with the big girn in the official Bonanza shirt. How out of character this is - To put this in perspective it would be like Lew wearing an official Liberty shirt while sitting in a small plane w/ JDUB.

That generator must have run like a big dog on 100LL. First thing I thought when I saw the picture was the big flame snuffer taking fuel samples from the planes to keep the doctor killer going!:D Must be the only air conditioned tent at Osh.

Wish I was there....

Jerry Winchester

Tom,

The 100 LL keeps the generator humming along so we can keep the computer, scooters, cell phones, hand held radio and lights charged while running the AC. We also have lots of neighbors who come by to charge their stuff, but we make the Mooney people go up to the shower house, but you can't really haul enough stuff in a Mooney to have anything worth charging.

I should use this time to harpoon Mike and Jon since we know Jon is up, but has no computer access and Mike is sound asleep. I don't know if Jeff is up with the chickens, but we heard a thunderstorm rumbling early and had to lash down the gear.

Jon has everyone believing that the Beach Boys are the ones staying in the Prevosts, so Mike wants to set by the coach all day waiting for the chicks to come ask for his autograph. And seeing as how the Beach Boys are playing here tonight, so far it is a believable story. Go figure.

JDUB: Glad to see your mama taught you not to play with matches. I know you put out oil fires, but did you hear about the two rednecks who blew up a car and put themselves in the hospital while stealing gas? They struck a match to see how much gas was in the can.

Beach Boys - more like Drivers for the beach bums

Looks like fun for everyone- including JPJ.

Just logged on to see JDUB was online down the hill next to the menonites. Hope he's got the cute blue tent well secured as I can hear the rain pounding on top of the bus. Nice dry and cozy up at Camp Prevost. Sleep tight.

It's all dry down here, so the high dollar tent did its thing. But the 06:45 wake up call by the B-17 and dual P-51 escorts didn't help much. Being on the end of the runway and right next to it has dual consequences.

Pretty big thunderstorm came thru last night, but after last year, we were better prepared for it.

If only Mike would get up and post some of the gazillion photos we took yesterday.

And the Beech Boys did a good job last night. First concert I have seen in forever but we ended up about 10 yards from the stage, so that was nice.

Jon is suffering from computer withdrawl and will be quite persnickity when he returns. He has been looking for an 80 year old woman to pre-judge his coach for Santa Fe so he will know what bling to add. Remember to post often about him while you get the chance. Between Mike and Jeff, they are keeping him in check at camp, but he may be bared from the exhibits today for asking too many questions.

Jon Wehrenberg

I wasn't bared from any exhibits. I was allowed to keep my clothes on.

The way he spells its a wonder he is allowed to claim OSU is in OK. I still maintain it is in OH.

I think you were just lucky. The Anal Aura must be the same as not wearing deodorant, so they were just ducking out when you walked the halls.

Did you buy anything? I never saw any booty. I did have GPS envy. Mike has a nice unit now. He just needs a plane to put it in.

I was way happy with mine yesterday. The approach was rainy and I was supposed to break out at 1100' but got down to 700' before the runway appeared. Not ready for a go around, but ready to be in the barn.

I bought some stuff and had Mr UPS deliver it. Easier than toting it around in the hot sun.

I really wanted to get rid of both planes and trade for the new WACO, but the three salesman were too busy playing with their computer to talk to me. Only $379,000.

Roger,

The photo was taken from the International Space Station which is in an orbit of 250 miles. But I do think they borrowed the supremely expensive MangoMike camera and lens.

They were trying to get a glimpse of the Bonanzas arrival to OSH
