JDUB, MM, A1, BrianE, Truk, and anybody else that had their head inside my engine bay at Spearfish:

While trying to locate a squeaky bearing, JDUB tells me I have an exhaust leak. "OK, I'll take care of it when I get home." JUST WHAT NOT WHY: Turns out that the flange on the exhaust pipe on the back side of the turbo had deteriorated. A band clamp holds this in place, and maybe it wasn't on correctly, who knows. It most likely has been that way since we purchased the bus 3 years ago. Anyway, a new pipe was installed at Mira Loma. (BTW, the nipple on the pipe is where the pyrometer hooks up.) Previous to the repair, while pulling a grade the tranny temp and the water temp rose dramatically. Much of the hot exhaust coming out of the turbo was going directly into the engine bay. Last week I took I-5 north out of L.A., a grade that is referred to as the Grapevine, and the tranny temp did not move and the water temp only rose slightly. Pyrometer was right at 8.

Yet another reason not to miss a rally!! Thanks guys.
