Dash A/C R12 Pressures Needed

Anyone have the low and high freon charging numbers for the Prevost Dash A/C using R12? Jon thought it was about 35 and 165. I can't seem to find it in writing anywhere.

The numbers I remember for the dash air is; suction 38 psi and discharge 195 psi. The ambient temperature was approx. 85. My dash air works, but I declare it as 'wimpy'. The discharge temperatures at the duct runs around 52 - 54 once the system is stabilized. I am probably expecting to much. Once the coach is cooled down by the bus air, the dash air feels good.

Thanks Hector... I called Prevost in the Mother Land and they gave me the following:

Low side - 30 - 40
High side - 150 - 175

All this is dependant on temperature and as usual, A-1 was dead on the money!;)

Hector, we're talking real Prevost OTR air here, not that toy setup CC uses.:)

Tom, that info is on the Prevost Car website somewhere, but I gave up looking for it after an hour last night. Their site is just damn hard to find stuff on, but it is all there somewhere. Pump it down and put 30 pounds of R12 in the system and it will freeze your butt off. eBay is the best source for R12 these days if you don't have enough.

Is that R-12 on e-bay fresh or recycled and what is the cost. I have a source for fresh R-12 30lb kegs, 588 bucks.

It was fresh R-12 (original container, with seal still on) and I paid $525 for 30# cyllinder.

Joe, I have bought two in the last year and both were new unbroken seal 30# jugs. Somewhere in the $400 range delivered. I had a high pressure hose go bad and the compressor seal leaking at the same time and used one 30# jug to recharge a couple of months ago.

We're talking apples and oranges here! I am dealing with the dash air that takes 7 lbs, not OTR. I spent lots of time on the Prevost site also and couldn't find the pressure settings either.

Anyone have any experience with Freeze 12? Napa is selling it here locally and claims it works fine. R-12 by the 12 oz can is 40.00 and Freeze 12 is 12.00.

That freeze12 carries different charge levels so if you mix it with regular R-12 the correct charge becomes a crap shoot. If you use it best not to mix.

The last time I had to get a keg of the r-12 a local guy told me to prove the best price I could get and he would match it. I know he has plenty more.

I still have 6lbs left in the first keg but do want to get 1 more.

I'd be willing to fork over $400 to $450 any day of the week for a sealed 30# drum of R12.

Tom........I changed out my R12 for 134. I replaced the dryer which is a black cylinder located under the power steering tank. I bought the dryer from Prevost, inexpensive and easy to install. I used the suction side to remove all of the R12. I bought 8 cans of 134 at Wal-Mart for $7.00 each. The 8 cans of 134 brought my pressures up to 38lbs and it cools great. I had to run the engine at fast idle for the compressor to accept freon and to cool. I changed to 134 because of price and availability. Darrell

Should I bring the gauges? I have the vacuum pump, but if you still have pressure in the system you won't need it.

I would like to do the same thing, but all I read and hear is negative comments about the switch over. Sounds like you have been successful at changing yours and that's good to hear. As more and more conversions are done, maybe that will be the way to go.
