Does anyone have a useful opinion on the Howard Power Center Steering system. My coach had the system install new by Marathon. I spoke to Sam at 'Howard' and he was able to explain how it works and also sent me a copy of the Service Manual. I've check out my system and it tests out good per the procedures in the Service Manual.
I will be using the 'Howard' on my next trip in two weeks.

Good morning,

I had the Howard system on two plastic coaches in the past. I drove each of the coaches without the system, then had it installed. The benefits were very obvious: less wandering, better tracking, and more stability. That being said, I did not have the system installed on either of the 2 Prevost I have owned. They both out handled the plastic coaches with the Howard system.

Provided the system works correctly, it is very easy to use and control. Just remember that the "higher" you dial the setting, the more resistance you will have in turning the wheel. When you want to do "close order maneuvers" it is better to turn the system off.

All in all, I do like the system, but do not find any need in the Prevost.

Jim,

PeterVS had a great description on the workings of the Howard Steering. Try doing a search to find his comments.

I have one on the Mothership and it's helpful in a strong crosswind, otherwise in the H3 I really don't miss it.

Mike
