How many bringing bikes to Sevierville and are you interested in a ride or two to see some sites in the Smokies? I can put together a few suggested rides if interested.

Tom,

It is my understanding there will be a ride on the dragon tail.

OK, if that's whats already planned. We can watch the crotch rockets being removed by ambulance and life flight. Cherokee and Maggie Valley are good spots for folks who have never been there. Nice ride over the mountains.

And you can visit the museum of wheels in Maggie Valley with motorcycles from a hundred years ago....well, they appeared that way at least

Hey Tom, we are bringing ours, just keep the rain out of the picture.

Does Tennessee have anything like the three sisters we did in Texas? :)

Dale I can't believe your talking like that? :o Wasn't Jan with you on that trip? :D

Peg and I checked into Fly and Ride at the local Harley dealership, but $200.00 per day per ( 2 ) motorcycles, was just to steep for us at the moment. Yes, Peg told me if we got any HD's she was driving her own, she was not riding behind me... ? :p

So we will not be riding on Wednesday. Would love too, but not this time.

We do have "Rode the Dragon's Tail" Black T-Shirt from our last trip.

Dale,

You mean those little mole hills covered by scrub and sage brush?:p You will love the Smokies....

This trip will be interesting, I just finished Triking my Hog, a whole new adventure without ever putting my feet down... And, are you ready for this, I installed a reverse kit!

I was checking out my gps mapsource and is there not any good rides in the Great Smoky Mountains Park?

I have the Blue Ridge Parkway mapped and the Dragons Tail.

Tom, do you have rides planned? You know me, I have to have them locked in so I'll know if your lost! :)

ps. did you get the jpg's?

No official plans at present, we can go over the rides when we're all together at S'ville. Put that GPS in the saddle bag, you won't need it.

After lots of hard work, didn't even have time to work on the bus, here's the outcome....

I was going to tell you that you have a fine ride there Mr Truk, but with that kind of attitude I won't. Where do you put the Radio Flyer decals?

Dale, Did you see how mean Truk was to me in a previous post. He was picking on me an Kevin.

Besides, he is getting old.

Actually I should be nice to him. He has my bus ramps.

Tom,

Just got this from a friend at NCDOT. You might be interested in reading through it, as should others not familiar with the reputation of this road that are planing to bring bikes to Sevierville. Please take special note of the type bike that has been involved in three of the fatal crashes. Be careful on that shiny new trike. They handle entirely different than a conventional two wheeler.

Will,

You seem real concerned about the dragons tail, were not puppies out to break the time/speed record. Harley's are slow and we're old. This is not my first trike, that was in 1970 (flathead 45) that I built from the ground up.

Properly done, it's a safe and fun ride. I wouldn't want folks coming from out of state afraid to ride it, based on all the horror stories. It's a dangerous ride for those with no respect for safety, speed and the proper equipment. Besides, Dale will have to have the t-shirts!

Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the bikers.

Tom,

Good Morning.

I am not trying to scare anyone from doing anything. I am simply trying to make certain that everyone has a good time and is well informed about the pitfalls found along US 129 in Tennessee and North Carolina.

Each rider has their own skill set. Only they can evaluate whether their skill set measures up against 318 curves, downhill in such a short stretch of mountain road. Since you have experience riding US 129, and have a trike to boot, I nominate you to be the "Leader of the POG Pack."

As for the speed capability of a Harley, the 45 cubic inch (730 cc) version may not have been much (especially with the limitations of being in a trike) but the current 85 cubic inch (1380 cc) version is a different breed altogether. Everyday I see them well over the posted 65 MPH speed limit on my way to the office.

See ya in Sevierville.

Will

Didn't they make a movie about the Trukman and his first trike? "World's Fastest POS" or something like that....

I think it was "The Trike Stuff".

No way Will, I'll be poking along in the rear (remember, I'll have tired arms), but since your the resident, I nominate you as the ride leader!;)

Do I have a second?

What do you think of this route...
321 - Foothills Pkwy
129 (the tail) - 28
19 through Bryson City - Cherokee
Then back over the Mountain to Gatlinburg

Hey, is TM1 and TM2 hanging out together in an undisclosed location making plans for POGV?

Will Garner

Tom,

Hey, I appreciate the vote of confidence you have given me as your choice to be the "Leader of the POG Pack." Couple of years ago I'd have gladly put on that mantle. I rode a 1974 HD Superglide from new to 1998. Total of 50,000 miles. One ride went from Wilson North Carolina to Evansville Indiana (965 miles) in the same day (July 1979). My only stops were for gas and food. Unfortunately, time has taken a toll on me in the past 10 years. So much of a toll that I finally surrendered my "M" endorsement. Of course I could lead all the bikes while relaxing in my Toad vehicle at the front of all those motorcycles if ya'll promise not to put any dents in the tailgate! Probably won't be doing anything but relaxing on our free Wednesday anyway. Not much "bling" to attend to on my coach.

Oh and by the way, most of "The Dragon" is in Tennessee. That would make Jon the closest resident and therefore I nominate Jon to be the Sevierville Rally "Leader of the POG Pack." Any seconds for Jon?

Who are all of these bikers trying to educate? You know that Harley Boys are uneducable. You can always tell a biker, but you can't tell him much.

I'm not sure about leader of the pack but I have done that loop several times and it is a great ride, But to make it seem really worth wild you have to do the dragon 3 times to really get the correct feel and still be going the right direction!!!!!!! Just let me know, Bill

Jim_Scoggins

Doing the Dragon is easy on a motorcycle. We need to go through there as a pack of Prevosts!

First one out of the chocks is the leader.
