webasto blows blue smoke at startup

Why does the Webasto blow blue smoke at the start and then turn clear? The generator and engine do not. Thanks.

It is probably because the combustion chamber is still cold and combustion is incomplete. As it warms up I presume all fuel is burned. Blue smoke is usually associated with an engine that burns oil, white smoke is unburned raw fuel (or an indication engine coolant is getting into the cylinders on an engine), and black smoke is fuel that has not completely burned, such as when more fuel is delivered to the cylinders than there is oxygen available for complete combustion such as before the turbo comes up to speed.

Your engine and generator will also smoke on a cold startup. If it is not too cold out you may see some black smoke, and when it is cold you are likely to see white smoke from unburned raw fuel. As they warm up combustion is also more efficient and the smoke becomes almost invisible.

Spot on Jon! Let the thing run and allow it to clear out it's lungs. Your coach Lloyd came from California right? The Webasto, like mine, has probably hardly been used.
