Is it possible to blow out a tire ( the sidewall) by merely rubbing against a curb at low speed while cornering?

I am not exactly sure we are talking about the same thing, but yes it is often done but trucks, I have witnessed the event numerous times. It usually happens with a fully loaded flat bed trailer when the turn was not setup properly and a rear wheel hits the curb just right and because the trailer weighs so much that it can't be pushed sideways the tire gives, and the seal between the rim and the bead are broken and with a bang all the air rushes out.

The sidewalls are thin and rubbing them are the achilles heal of the tire if there is one. Any time you rub one there is cause for concern. I'm not refering to the seal at the bead.

What was your altitude when Kim hit the curb?

attitude or altitude? without assigning blame or conceding who was driving...CSI miami performed a post incident investigation and discovered a piece of protruding rebar, from where the curb had been previously broken,( at least this is what I am being told)which punctured the tire.

You got lucky, it blew immediately, that was a gift. Better than it going an hour or so later waiting till you were underway at highway speed.

I agree, nothing compares with the sound of the tread seperating itself from the tire casing and slapping the contents of the wheel well out onto the highway.....

we were fortunate ,it just made a loud hissing sound. Went back to the scene of the crime and indeed there was a broken drainage grate that pierced the tire. BTW did you get my email Oren?( a couple were kicked back)
