When we had the coach at Prevost Texas a few weeks back, I had them check the OTR air. They ended up putting eleven pounds of R12 in the system at the bargain basement price of $48 a pound. Last week I bought an unopened 30# tank of R12 for $350. If anyone needs any R12 and is going to be at Sevierville, let me know and I will bring it with me.
Now, if anyone has a set of chrome mirrors that will fit an early 90's XL, I will bring enough cash to cover any reasonable price. The painted mirrors on our coach have got to go.

Ted,

If your mirrors are Ramcos, they are aluminum castings and will strip and polish very nicely. Mine were painted also and it was not a big deal to accomplish the job. Chrome mirrors are available of course but past threads will verify they chip and peel badly. Ramco tech support even suggests that polished aluminum will be much more satisfactory. Keeping them polished is no more work than keeping chrome looking good.

If I saved you some money, how about an R12 charge at SV? :D

For anyone that has an R12 system that is an opportunity that doesn't come along very often.

There has been a lot of posts about switching a system over to 134A, but if you have R12 your system will perform more efficiently by about 15%, and R12 is less likely to leak because it is operating at lower pressures.

Ted, I sure hope they replaced the seal on the compressor shaft. That is typically where the freon escapes and it is not a big deal to take care of. If they did not you can shut the valves and isolate the compressor so the loss of R12 is minimal and still get it done.

Well, Brian I don't think my mirrors are Ramcos. I think the company is Velvac, but if they are aluminum, you are right, they should polish up real well. I'll just have to look closer and see what the casting is made from. If you need R12, I'll be glad to fix you up, but bring along a set of gages if you have them.
Jon, I don't think they replaced the seal. Prevost spent four hours checking for leaks and did not fine any. By that point I just wanted to get out of there and so far the OTR air is working great.

Keep it as clean as you can behind the compressor clutch/pulley. If it is leaking there you will see some evidence of oil. I have some slight leakage there with mine now, but it is so slight I am not going to do anything yet. It is a condition that just gradually gets worse, but as long as the system is working no sense dealing with it.

Ted is that R-12 recycled or new?

Joe, this is a new "old stock" 30# tank of R12. Still has the original cardboard box with the tank inside. Not recycled

I for one sorta like the look of the painted mirrors -- a retro look as it were.

Ted,

I'll take the R-12. I can pick it up at the Rally.

That is a steal, concidering.

We bought a 30lb keg last summer for 580$ if I remember correctly and that was a decent price compared to the rest of the choices at the time.

I've got about 7lbs left after filling the system from empty but would like to get another at that price.

Check ebay. AFter looking at his link, I did a search of R12 refrigerant, and there are at least 3-4 30lb bottles being auctioned, with buy-it-now prices of $255.

Sorry if I mislead folks into thinking that I wanted to sell the whole tank of R12. My intent was/is to let anyone who needs a few pounds to top off their system buy it at the price I paid for it. If you want a whole 30# tank, do what Ray suggest and go to eBay.

Ted, stumbled on the perfect source for replacement mirrors last Aug. out in Eugene Or. its called Northwest RV Supply they are bassically a backdoor dealer for CC, Monaco, Beaver, and anyone else overruns scratch and dent or surplus coach stuff. But they have a Mirror room full of Velvac and Ramco single, two head, and even three head chrome mirror sets. I bought a set for my then Affinity- 2 head Velvac new in the box wire harness and controllers for 325.00 Prices seem to range 300 to about 450-500. The guys name is Joe Cioli ph#541-746-9092 even has an toll free 866-6 RV SHOP or the web site which is not much help in this dept. is www.nwrvsupply.com. Hope this helps

I think any POGers who are going to bid on e-bay for those need to contact the other interested members first so we are not bidding against each other:rolleyes:

I am pretty sure I can also get R-12 for 588$ if it comes to that. There is a whole pallet of 30lb kegs (new) so it isn't a pressing matter. Stow this info for future reference or contact me and I will verify and accomidate.

Ted, Check with Ryan at Mr. Olivers RV, 972-562-8008. He stocks a few used sets of chrome mirrors. Darrell

Good idea, Darrell. Ryan did the PDI with me on our coach and I should have thought about calling him or Paul. Thanks
