Darl and Martha Wilson and I scouted out the Nevada Rally in Pahrump. Here are some images of the resort and the surrounding countryside. It is a nice spot and the facility is new and well-designed.

Looks pretty nice. Sure glad I didn't see any pictures of the "Chicken Ranch" which is supposedly pretty close nearby!!:rolleyes:

Pahrump May Rally: Shirley and I finally made it to Seibt in Pahrump for an overnight stay. It is a first class RV Resort and will provide an excellent spot for our POG rally. Start your diets now so you can strut around the hugh pool area. Bring your bowling balls, they have a 4 lane bolling alley on site. Come early or stay beyond the rally week and relax in the best.

Ray I talked with the madam at the Chicken Ranch about a parking spot for you. She's going to get back to me, she says she thinks she knows you. Small world.

Did you know you can take a brothel tour?

Call Sheri's and set it up. Sorry, No free samples.

We did a tour a while ago with about 15 coaches and they even provided a buffet lunch.

They have theme rooms... Nascar/Budweiser, Gladiator, Pop Rock, Leather S/M and more...

The wives really got a kick out of it!

Hey guys, I saw in the paper today that Heidi Fleiss runs a laundromat in town. You might have guessed that the name of it is "Dirty Laundry".

When she was in prison, they had her on 24 hour watch for a while and my son had to watch the "Bitch" a few times.

Look her up and give her my best wishes. I think she was arrested this time because of DUI.

Harry, watch your heart as you get close to Cheri's. Have pictures of the two places but it would take a miracle to submit them.

At the risk of dreaded Thread Creep here, this topic has already been covered under MPD, Stainless and Rivets. It is entitled, "Getting Wood in Your Camper." Y'know.

Not exactly... My cousin Don Wilson of 'The Ventures' (http://www.theventures.com/index_files/news2.htm) ("Walk don't run", "Hawaii 50" and many other hits) is being is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (http://www.rockhall.com/pressroom/2008-inductee-announcement)tomorrow night. This is being telecast on VH-1 (http://www.vh1classic.com/) tomorrow, March 10 at 8:30 p.m. EST.

I have asked Don and my 2nd cousin Tim(Don's son) of Wilson Bros. Guitar (http://www.wilsonguitarventures.com/wgv.html)
to supply me with a load of Ventures CD's, hats, shirts, etc. to be handed out to the attendees and some to be auctioned off for the local Pahrump charity.

Jim Skiff, Harry Hoppe, and I have spent some time at the Seibt Desert Resort (http://www.seibtdesertretreat.com/index.html) recently to make sure it is a site appropriate for a Western POG Rally. I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised. Hopefully we will have some folks from the east, besides Jon W. and his lovely bride, motor over to enjoy some time with their fellow POGers. I am trying to do my part to make this an enjoyable event but we need feedback about anything special the members would like to see or do. Please contact the Skiffer and let him know.
Thanks,
Darl

That has to be the nicest landscaping in a RV resort I have ever seen. I thought I would never see anything to compare to Ft. Wilderness but that place outdoes it.

I believe that all of the Southern CA guys are planning on going to Pahrump. Unfortunately, as much as I'd love to go to Seiverville, it's not a possibility.

I have a suggestion for a "tech" session. Ken Zittrer took me out geo-caching this morning, where we located two sites. Lot's of fun. I bet we can get Ken to give us a seminar on geo-caching, and maybe even go out and locate a couple nearby?

Nice job Darl, I think folks need to step up so Skiffer can get a good count, it's not that far away. My understanding, is so far the attendance is weak.
What do you think?

Right up the road, question is which road, is Area 51 the super secret military base and suspected hang out for extra-terrestrials. Should you be up for that bring your Jeep, your GPS, binocs, night vision goggles, flack jackets, water, snake bite kits and nerve. I have heard that the natives can be hostile!

Art Bell also hangs his hat in Pahrump (Coast-to-Coast AM) and owns a little local radio station KNYE, know as the kingdom of nye, don't really know what all that means.

Anyway, that place should be fun and the clear desert sky should provide all of the "sightings" you could ever hope for, with the help from the duty drink of the desert, Jose Cuervo...straight with salt and lemon....avoid the tempting Jimmy Buffet drink here.

Sounds like things are looking up for Pahrump. Gary, it sounds like you're volunteering Ray for a seminar after his visit to the Chicken Ranch. How about a little chat on how the electrical permit process works for Ventura County.

John, While it would be a great adventure to sneak out to 51, my guess is you would be more comfortable playing with the tail-wheel lock on a 74. Look forward to meeting you. :D

Kelly Jo and I plan to attend.

John, the Kingdom of Nye comes from the fact that Pahrump lies in NYE County NV, hence KNYE!

There is plenty to do out there, we are looking forward to it indeed!!

We are 100% for this rally. We didn't drive down there, check the place out, talk with the management, and put up with The Skiffer for two days for nothing. I wholeheartedly agree with what everyone has written here*;

Let's go have some fun!!!

*Except my no-confidence pal, Jim Skiff

For those without coaches there is reasonable lodging nearby. If you have any questions call me or Harry. (He and Shirley spent some time there too)

If a broke-A$$ mortgage broker can make this rally, anybody can!!

Hope to see everyone next month!!:):):)

We will be in attendance regardless of the number of folks going. We should have a good time with 5 coaches or a hundred in my opinion!

I strongly support HAVING the rally. I do not see a downside. POG 1 and the recent Port St. Lucie mini rally were that size and we had a very good time at both.

A small rally allows attendees to really get to know one another and any seminars or impromptu events are really enjoyable.

Subject: Pahrump Nevada Rally

After speaking with several members of the course of a few days, our low numbers at Pahrump are making it a difficult decision to go through with the rally in Pahrump. Though we have members who are enthusiastic still about attending, others feel that the low numbers would be a disappointment.

We have 9 coaches at this point attending and seeing how things are developing in Sevierville, it is hard not to make a comparison.
A member did express the desire to save for the Elkhorn Rally instead of going to Pahrump.

In the future, we will continue with the great success of mini-rallies organized by members like those put on by Debi, Ray & Lew but focus on one centrally located National Rally a year. That event is tentatively planned for Oklahoma in April of 08.

Before we cancel the event I'd like to hear from folks who I haven't yet communicated with to get feedback. I would like to make a decision in the next few days.

So, checking maps.google.com today to look for a route out to Pahrump, it suggests going up I-15, and getting off at Baker, and heading north on HWY 127.

From the satellite view, it's hard to tell about this road. It appears to go through some pretty desolate area of Death Valley.

An alternative is to go almost all the way into Las Vegas, and take the Blue Diamond Road, and head back west for maybe 30 miles. All in all, that route is about 60 miles longer, but maybe safer?

Just curious if anyone has taken this road? Are there service stations, truck stops? I had hoped to fill up in NV, but this route bypasses known NV truck stops.

Thanks,
Ray

It is desolate, but I like desolation!

Ray if you run clear up to BD road, there is a TA there for fuel. I think ORA Vegas is right there too. Maybe Lee can confirm that if he is home, and tell you what the diesel price is there.

I spoke with Ken Z earlier, and we're both coming. Ken will be coming out on Monday, but I'm gonna come out on Saturday prior. Just spoke with Warren, and we're gonna meet up, and drive up the "desolate" road!

When is everyone else coming? Anyone maybe interested in catching a show or something in Vegas, maybe Sunday afternoon/evening?

>>> message interruppted <<<<<

Just got off the phone with Gary D, and he's coming out Saturday as well, so it looks like Gary, Warren and I should be able to hookup and travel together.

I will admit that I was one of the people concerned about the lack of people coming to Pahrump. But, I'm assured we're going to have a great rally, and we're looking forward to it. I really, really need some time off!

Let's get this party started .... :D

We are ready for sure, I don't care about the schedule, itinerary or most anything else, just am ready for a good time...

I don't even mind if we break down, as long as it is on the way home!!

Maybe there is some jeeping to do out there? Ken you ever done any off roading out there?? Or maybe some Geocaching... :)

Whatever it is, we are ready.... I went to Costco today and bought a SH**LOAD of hearing aid batteries for Harry, so we should be good to go :D

We are going to leave on 5/2 and hammer down. I am seriously contemplating 63 or maybe even 64 MPH the whole way. 2035 miles in two or three days.

As long as the Chinese tires hold air we will be there on 5/5.

Another consideration for an enroute stop may well be Laughlin, Nevada. The SoCal guys just come out on 40 to Needles and turn left on 95.....

Don Laughlin's Riverside has a huge park across the street from his Casino. I realize that Celine Dion won't be there but, nothing wrong with Patti Page for the greybeard set:D Anyway there is a large line of resorts (casinos/hotels) along te Colorado River and the place is really easy to navigate when compared to Las Vegas.

2035 miles in two or three days.

Wow, that's a bit o'driving isn't it? I show approximately 30 hours. In 2 days! Even at 64MPH that's brutal in two days. Take at least three! (or more)

I do not consider driving work. As long as I can move around every few hours driving is like sitting in the living room watching TV. So I have somehow got my brain convinced that as long as my eyes are open I might as well be doing something useful.

I can't see the difference between sitting in the driver's seat killing bugs with my windshield, or sitting in the living room watching another episode of Law and Order.

There is literally nothing I want to see or do along the way so it is probable we will just eat up some miles.

My longest drive in one day was about 1200 miles from Austin TX to Knoxville. I was alone and just wanted to get home after a trade show. We routinely run 650 miles in a day either to visit our daughter in western NY or when we used to visit Di's mom in FL. With three days, plus the arrival day our average distance per day can be in that range so I will just use my normal standard and only drive when I feel like it, and park when I don't.

Ray, I know a little about this area but I made a couple of phone calls to verify the road condition.
I talked with Rose at the Shoshone (Pronounced, Show Shonee)Museum 760-852-4524 and she stated that the road from I-15 to Pahrump is a good road suitable for large trucks and motor homes. You might also stop at the Crowbar Cafe and Saloon in Shoshone and say hi to Naomi. She gave me info on the road to Pahrump from Shoshone. That 27 mile stretch is in good condition. The sumary of the reports are that both 178 and 127 are very good highways and are not isolated. Pahrump has several fuel stops but it is not as cheap there as Las Vegas. With 1,200 miles of fuel on board it doesn't look like you will need to fuel in any high-priced area. Good Luck!
