I'm just wondering if anyone is heading over to Scottsdale, Arizona the week of Jan. 12 to 20 for the car auction.

Isn't that the one that Coloradobus normally attends?

Yes Ray. However , they are not going . Just checking to see if any POG memers will be represented. I have planned on going over for a few days next week.

Gary, can you do some posting live at the auction? I would love to hear about some of the sales, if it works.

Gary,

I always like seeing what the classic muscle cars are bringing and what cars are bringing the really big bucks.

I have a 66 skylark convertible that I wished was there.

Dalej: Sorry your Skylark is 13 years too new for the big bucks. The auction is televised every day it is on.

Hey Harry, how are you guys doing? It sounded like you received some severe
weather out in your area.

I arrived Sunday and toured the tents today. Lots of American Chevys, Fords, Dodge, & Pontiacs of the 50's & 60's. Looks like the American Muscle car is alive and well. Not too many imports. Auction starts tomorrow.
The weather is great.
Marathon and Featherlite brought several new Coaches to display, and I see several Airplane manufacturers are here as well.
There are several High Octane Cigar Racing Boat companies, Motorcycle Companies, and 50 or so vendors of collectible memorabilia.
Mercedez, Bently, GM and Ford have large displays of new cars.
Lots to see.

I took some photos today. There are 400-500 vehicles if not more, so this is but a few.

Gary,

Thanks for posting the pics. Lots of nice buggies. Are you looking for something or just kicking tires?

The older Corvettes look sweet as did the Shelby Cobra. I'm not much or a Cord / Auburn / Dusenberg kind of guy.

This year I am just looking. I enjoy the carnival atmosphere and taking it all in. I do like the Cobra's, Jags, and Corvettes but I have no money nor Garage space . It will be interesting to see how these cars sell this year with the economy slowing down. I will post some more pics tomorrow.
They were auctioning old Gas Station signs and pumps today. Some original small signs ,(2' x 2') , were selling for $1800.00 and up. Vintage Gas Station pumps and other Lube type equipment are being sold by Vendors for $3500.00 to $6500.00 refinished.

Carguy there also. Everyone with an interest in cars should come to Scottsdale for car week. I am selling the following cars at BJ. It is quite a feeling pulling your car up on the stage at a no reserve auction having no idea what it will sell for. I have been bringing my cars here for a number of years to sell. It is still an undescribable experience. Watch a grown man sweat on live TV on speed channel!

CarGuy: That is certainly an impressive list. They have to be the creme de le crop with the specs they carry. Engines, trannies, miles, condition- even colors. Wow that is better than Disney World to a guy like me. Beautiful and impressive collection you have.

I would certainly have a tight one on this deal. The anticipation has to have you breathing hard.

How do the BJ results compare to some of the more regional collector auctions ? Is there a hard number a person can expect to hit over the given history? 20 percent to 30, 40 percent more than any other auction?

Good Luck- It is kinda like the harder you work the luckier you get.

Very nice . The 54 Corvette is a beauty. That car is definitely one of a kind. It looks brand new.

I'm just thinking that you could buy a 54 vette or a 97-99 xlv for about the same amount.

10 years down the road....your vette brings $500,000 and your bus brings $100,000 :(

Gary and CarGuy, thanks very much for the picture posts. My 1st new car was identical (except color) to the GTO CG is selling on Friday. I think I paid somewhere in the vicinity of 3k for the car in 1964. I looked at a similar one at Hot August Nights here in Reno about 6-7 years ago and the guy was asking about 30k. I thought that was a little much but I'll bet I'm wrong. It will be real interesting to see what yours brings. Hope you great POGers are having a lot of fun. Good Luck and Happy Selling! :)

I'm not sticking around to see the high rollers bidding at the end of the week but I understand there is a nightly show on TV summarizing the high points of each day.
Signing off from Westworld. Gary

Hi Truk, I promised my wife I would'nt bring anything back , so she let me go! Not really. You know , depending on the car you want, I'm not sure you can't find it on e-bay and a better price. You can easily get caught up in the excitement at Barrett-Jackson. The cars, adrenaline, and competitive nature of men, pumps up the price.

It is much easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.

And hey, what's this "I promised my wife," stuff about, huh?

Guy up!

Gary: I won't get in on the harassing you with these other guys, I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to post the pics. I thoroughly enjoyed viewing them, wishing I was there. I would really get into deep dodo quick.
Thanks again

The trip was great but definately a guy thing. If you watch the SPEED channel, you will notice there are not very many women at Barrett-Jackson.
It might make a good POG mini rally sometime in the future.

Yeah! That would be a pretty do-able one day run from Southern CA.
