I am looking for campground suggestions for Destin, Florida. Unfortunately, Topsail Hill is full for the dates that we have chosen. I looked on the web and found Destin RV Resort which looks pretty nice, but I wanted to see if any of the members have better suggestions. Thanks.

Who said you could leave town?

So you are going to trade a big whopper trip for a bunch of drive-by-shooting sized ones?

Did you look at RV Park Review? I thought there was one that overlooked the beach that was a state park?

Do they let XL1.5's into Florida?

Loc, Some entries in BIG RIGS. I have no personal knowledge of quality or desirability. Because they are in BIG RIGS your rig should fit. Some look very nice.;)

Loc,

I stayed at Destin Beach RV Resort about 5 years ago and it is very, very tight for a Big Rig. The site that I was in was so narrow when I opened the door to walk outside I was standing in the flower bed.

It is a very nice RV park, but the spaces are very tight. It has green paving brick roads and sites, beautifully landscaped, and is one block from the beach. Prices are high ($60/night in 2002).

Topsail Hill is the best bet in Destin, IMHO. I know that you said they were booked on the dates that you want. You might check a day or two before you are planning to arrive to see if they have any cancelations. If you get lucky space #91 is the best in the park because it is closest to the tram that runs to the beach every hour on the hour. We will be at Topsail Hill June 26 - 29th. We go to Destin every June, and I reserve my site at Topsail Hill a year in advance.

What dates are you planning to go?

Jim,

Thanks. The Big Rig Book is great.

Tuga,

We hadn't planned to go to the beach this summer, but we had to cancel a trip to Montana and Wyoming so we are looking for some fill in trips. We were trying to go June 23 - 25 with a stopover in NOLA on the 22nd at FQRV. Maybe we should just come the next week and double up on your site. The Destin Resort has space, but they are high at $70+ per night and it sounds like the spaces are tight. Our trip may go the way of the Montana trip and get canceled because of work.

Jerry,

Blah, Blah, Blah :p . I can't wait to see the next repair from your work-cation. The General (that is what I call Jerry's bus because of the 5 stars on each side and the back) is fast approaching XL1.5 status and may even reach the XL1.6 level if you can get the slack adjusters polished. At 1.6 I think you get to round up. You should look into a traveling bus repair seminar business. You could go from campground to campground putting on repair clinics (rubber bumpers, blowouts, cruisairs, etc.) and it would be deductible. Work in a Mexican / BBQ restaurant review book and it would be fully deductible. Who needs Bots and Coos?

Gary,

He's just mad because I manned up and took a two week vacation and Mr. Director Boy can't get the XL1.5 out of Harris County for a weekend.

Of course he needs to work more so he can cover everyone's bill at S&S.

Loc,

Just buck up and pay the $70 and have a good time. Think of all the money you saved on diesel by not going to Montana. I had to pay $3.06 for it in San Diego and $3.55 for gasoline here in SFO. But there are so many Libertys (the Jeep kind) here they don't need much gas......
