We would like to share our recent experiences with LUXTOR Services Mobile Repair ($149 call out - reduced if multi-customer appointments) and Service Center shop for the benefit of Coach owners fortunate enough to visit or reside in the Coachella Valley, CA area (i.e., Desert Shores Motorcoach Resort, Motorcoach Country Club, Outdoor Resorts Indio; Palm Springs, LaQuinta, etc.) and in need of Excellent, reliable and affordable service.

LUXTOR came highly recommended to us by another Prevost owner friend and we could not have been more grateful for the reference. Our “new to us” 2003 Prevost XLII Liberty Lady Classic (non-slide) had significant air leaks throughout and a starboard Cruisair issue - that we knew of.

One call to Donavan Pelkey (Sales/Service manager) and by the next morning he and Dominic (their experienced Prevost mechanic) were on-site to trace and make repairs to the driver’s side front Norgren valve and lines. We were advised that this repair would likely expose other air leaks; and sure enough, the Coach was leaning when re-visited the next day. As access to the affected Norgren valves required lifting the chassis, we made a service appointment for the next Monday morning. FYI - Dominic also fixed an issue we were having with not being able to start the 20Kw Kohler generator from any of the interior stations (dash, Control panel or bedroom) that our Dealer had been unable to resolve.

Although admittedly not a Cruisair certified center, Donavan and Dominic took enough interest and initiative to research our potential Cruisair issue (blowing warm air but, no high or low pressure errors). They believe the issue may ultimately require an R22 charge (hard to come by in SoCal). Meanwhile, Dominic has been talking with Alex at Liberty to eliminate other possibilities (compressor fan, faulty ground, etc.). He plans to follow-up with us next week to see if he will be able to fix.

Chris was our mechanic this past Monday - another pleasant, personable and highly skilled technician. He was able to not only identify and show us two more Norgren valve air leaks - but, also a faulty bleeder valve (stuck half-open) on the bottom of the accessory tank. He replaced the older style defective valve with the current brass valve design used on newer Prevost Coaches. No short cuts were taken. Every time a Norgren valve was replaced, new air hose lines were connected - to head off potential line failures down the road. 1st rate service!

We had only taken delivery of our Coach since mid-June where it had been Zeroed-out in Nashville, TN. With the bus lifted, Chris showed us where there was a oil leak from around the oil pan. Further investigation revealed that evidently our Dealer’s mechanic re-used a defective oil pan gasket when performing Level III services.

Chris ordered a new oil pan gasket from Detroit Diesel and meanwhile cleaned the area beneath the Coach, cleaned the oil pan in their parts washer and had everything ready to go for installation upon receipt of the gasket. Ten gallons of oil, a new filter and all other fluid levels checked - and, we are good to go. (Did we mention how thorough and professional the folks at LUXTOR are. ;))

Meanwhile, our air leaks have been resolved and the Coach has been sitting perfectly level for a week now. Additionally, Chris aligned the port, rear Zip Dee awning - to enable it to be locked when traveling; touched-up the undercoating insulation and verified that all undercarriage components (Independent Front Suspension, A-arms, Koni shocks, bushings, air bags, brakes, etc.) were in good operating order.

Throughout these days and the overall service process, we were constantly and consistently communicated with on mechanical updates and parts shipment tracking by the humorous, kind and most gregarious Donavan. He called, texted and E-mailed when he said he would. Following-up with updates as promised and committed.

Did we mention that the Coach was returned to us in immaculate condition (cleaner than the desert dust of a Indio typically allows).

Put bluntly, this time at LUXTOR was an incredible and extremely positive service experience.

Now what everyone really wants to know - Cost. Let’s just say, resolving the Norgren valves and air line leaks has cost not much more than these parts themselves - if I had a pit or lifts to do the work myself (much less the technical knowledge) ~ @ $350. We were very pleasantly surprised and grateful. Please remember, these charges are at California prices, too!

The oil pan gasket, 10 gallons of oil, filter and labor ~ @ $700. Again, not bad - and certainly less costly than the potential damage of an on-going oil leak (much less, what it might have done to the clear coat on our toad!).

Lastly, it is worth noting that Mike Lyon (Owner) has made a considerable investment in this community. He purchased the land the LUXTOR Service Center occupies and additionally, is building dozens of RV storage garages on-site. Mike has brought in a great Sales/Service team in Donavan and Jeff, as well as, three phenomenal technicians/mechanics. And, we are not yet in Peak Season.

Our intent is to make all our friends aware of this Excellent business and people!

It's always good to hear of service experiences that go well. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure many in SoCal will take note of where you went.

I've never heard of anyone that changes an oil pan gasket as part of a Level 3 service, not even Prevost. An oil pan leak is typically a separate repair item given it would not be included in the fixed price level 3 service. I would also find it unheard that any mechanic or shop would have removed an oil pan without a new gasket. The gasket is cheap.

Enjoy SoCal!

Thanks, Gil. Agree, Luxtor said they noticed the oil pan leak primarily because they had the Coach lifted. At least we now know to have the pan/gasket area checked prior to any Level III service. Have to say this has turned out to be an incredibly solid and reliable Coach! It really was Zeroed out nicely and everything replaced/repaired/updated from your very thorough PDI. Loving this lifestyle!
